Blba trees were a type of short, thorny tree found scattered across the grasslands of the Outer Rim planet Dantooine. They featured light brown trunks, green leaves, and were edible to herds of herbivores such as Dantooine's pikets. Fabool, balloon-like creatures found on the world, were sometimes skewered by the blba trees' thorns and then consumed by carnivorous snails.[1] A number of blba trees grew near a Resistance outpost on Dantooine[2] by 34 ABY.[3]

Behind the scenes

Blba trees were first mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in "Visiting Dantooine," an article[1] written by Tim Veekhoven[4] and published by De Agostini in the "Guide to the Galaxy" department of thirty-seventh issue of the Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon magazine[1] around September 16, 2015.[5] The trees then made their first appearance in "Rebuilding the Resistance,"[2] the seventeenth episode of the second season of the animated television series Star Wars Resistance, which aired on January 19, 2020.[6] Lucasfilm Animation artist Jim Moore created concept artwork of Dantooine's surface that depicted the trees, which was dated to September 12, 2018.[7]

In the Star Wars Legends continuity, blba trees first appeared in Dark Apprentice a 1994 novel written by Kevin J. Anderson as the second installment of the Star Wars: The Jedi Academy Trilogy.[8] It later was first visually depicted in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, a 2003 video game developed by BioWare.[9]
