A blastromech droid

A blastromech droid

A blastromech droid was a astromech droid that had been modified to serve as a security droid. Blastromech droids were used during the Clone Wars and the Galactic Civil War.

Description

Compared to standard astromech droids, these droids had an addition of two or more blasters on top of their bodies.[1]

History

During the Clone Wars, the Separatists used blastromech droids to defend their droid factory on Mustafar.[2]

After the Battle of Yavin, blastromech droids could be found in use by the Death Watch at their bunker on the forest moon of Endor.[3]

Borvo the Hutt owned several blastromechs to defend his vault on Naboo,[4] as well as the Ultragungans in their bunker.[5]

Blastromech droids were also used by the Rebel Alliance in a prison facility within the hidden Rebel base on Corellia.[6]

Behind the scenes

Blastromech droids appeared in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[1] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[7] Blastromech droids were added to the game with an update released on May 25, 2004.[8]
