The Ultragungan Militia, also known as the Ultra-Gungan Militia, was a Gungan paramilitary group based on Naboo. Its members were known as the Ultragungans.
History
- "Some Gungan artifacts were stolen. Mesa nein' yousa to get dem back. In exchange, while yousa recoverin' dose artifacts, Mesa'll figure out a way to get past da security on Ultragungan battle droids, which includin' da one yousa seek."
- ―Boss Nass, to a spacer
The Ultragungan Militia fought the Trade Federation Droid Army during the Invasion of Naboo. After the conflict, they kept a large number of battle droids, mostly B1-series battle droids, as spoils of war.[1]

During the Galactic Civil War, the Ultragungans operated out of a series of camps near the Gungan Sacred Place,[2][3] and a lair on an island in the Lasay Swamp. The Ultragungan Militia was in open conflict with the Naboo and with the rest of the Gungan society.[1] Sometime following the Battle of Yavin in 0 BBY, they stole an artifact from Boss Rugor Nass, broke it into six pieces, and scattered it across different areas of Naboo, namely the Darkwalker Cave, the Mummer bunker, the Moenia University Hall, the Keren Bank, the Mauler Stronghold and the Skaak Tipper Hideout.[4]
In 1 ABY,[5] Boss Nass hired a spacer to recover the six pieces of the artifact.[4] The spacer succeeded, and in return, Nass assisted the spacer with recovering an experimental Old Republic droid module, a stochastic decision chip, contained into a super battle droid in possession of the Ultragungans.[1] Boss Nass first suggested examining flawed Ultragungan battle droids for clues about how to bypass the hardware security on Ultragungan droids.[2] The spacer then attacked Ultragungan foot soldiers and discovered that the super battle droid self-destruct security mechanism could be bypassed using a password. The spacer eventually found the password from an Ultragungan droidtech toolkit in the Ultragungan Droidtech Camp.[3] With this password, the spacer was finally able to enter the Ultragungan Lair and destroy the super battle droid to recover the Old Republic droid module.[1]
Behind the scenes
The Ultragungans appeared in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[1] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[6] The Ultragungans were added to the game as part of the "Legacy Quest" with the release of the "Publish 25," a.k.a. the "New Game Enhancements," on November 15, 2005.[7]

- ↑ The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
