Hoping to lure Jedi Master Bran Ath' Morath to his death Darth Caldoth destroyed the city of Pundith on the Planet Kizan. Sure enough Jedi ships soon appeared in orbit as Caldoth awaited in the ruins of Pundith. Four Jedi were sent but Caldoth quickly dispatched three of them with his red lightsaber. But Bran Ath' Morath and Caldoth were so evenly matched that their battle raged on and on. But as day became dusk both began to tire. Finally Caldoth lowered his blade and thrust himself forward, piercing himself with in the shoulder with Bran Ath' Morath's yellow lightsaber, however Caldoth's blade struck lower and killed Bran Ath' Morath and leaving Caldoth wounded but alive.

Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace states that the Sith were presumed dead after the Jedi-Sith War, and the Jedi were unaware of any Sith alive afterwards, meaning that Darth Caldoth was active prior to the Defeat of the Sith. The Star Wars Book dates this to 1,032 years prior to Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, which corresponds to 1032 BBY according to Star Wars: Galactic Atlas. Therefore, in order for the Jedi to have known about Darth Caldoth, "Battle of Kizan" must take place by that year.
