The Battle of Amaltanna was a battle between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars on the planet Amaltanna. In the end, the Republic triumphed over the Separatists, but the extent of the damage was so severe that its inhabitants were relocated as refugees to worlds such as Naboo and Alderaan.[1]

The Battle of Amaltanna appeared in "Galactic Tales: The Failing of the Light," a short story by Adam Lance Garcia that was published in issue 233 of Star Wars Insider magazine[1] on August 19, 2025.[3] The battle originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity and appeared in the comic story "Impregnable,"[4] which was released on January 31, 2007,[5] as part of Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures Volume 7. In the story, the battle was a bloody affair that occurred six months into the Clone Wars and saw conflict between the clone troopers of Jedi General Bultar Swan and the battle droids of[4] Baron Edi Wedd,[6] who commanded the battle from a seemingly impregnable fortress.[4]

Garcia intended for the canon battle to have started early in the Clone War, yet he decided against outright confirming as such in "The Failing of the Light" to give other Lucasfilm creatives a chance to determine its exact timeframe.[2] Ahead of release on July 24, 2025, Garcia teased the role of the Battle of Amaltanna in his story by posting an image of the battle's Legends equivalent to his Bluesky page.[7] On August 2, Garcia teased that the story would feature "several events from both Legends and Canon" from a specific perspective, all without spoiling what those events were.[8] After release, Garcia expressed joy to see story elements from "The Failing of the Light" receive their own pages in the Wookieepedia fan encyclopedia,[9] including the canonized Battle of Amaltanna.[10]
