Ateles were type of hooting bird that could be found in the Outer Rim planet Akiva's Canyon of Akar. While visiting the planet Kashyyyk[1] in 5 ABY,[2] the Akivan native and pilot Norra Wexley considered the relative silence of the world, comparing it to the noises made by Akiva's fauna, including ateles in the Canyon of Akar.[1]

Ateles were mentioned in Aftermath: Life Debt, a 2016 novel written by Chuck Wendig as the second installment in Star Wars: The Aftermath Trilogy.[1]
