""Dear Ashara. We're glad to hear you're happy and well. We're very proud that you've become a Jedi. Asher is nearly sixteen and plans to join Republic Special Forces.""
―Ashara Zavros reads the "letter from her parents."[2]

Asher Zavros was the supposed brother of Ashara Zavros, a Togruta Jedi–turned–Sith who was active during the Galactic Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire. While apprenticed to the Sith Lord Darth Nox, Ashara read a letter to her teacher that she claimed to be from her parents; the letter stated that a sixteen-year-old Asher planned to join the Republic Special Forces.[2]

However, the veracity of the letter was questionable, as Ashara's parents, the Jedi Knights Rolen and Yanila Zavros, died more than a decade prior, in the Sacking of Coruscant in 3653 BBY.[3]

Behind the scenes

Asher Zavros is mentioned by the conversation "Fear and Longing" with the Sith Inquisitor companion Ashara Zavros in Star Wars: The Old Republic, a video game released by BioWare in 2011. However, the letter she reads to the player does not line up with Ashara's own backstory, as laid out in other conversations and the 2012 reference guide Star Wars: The Old Republic Encyclopedia. Ashara herself states in the conversation "Masters" that her parents died in the Sacking of Coruscant, and she and the Encyclopedia say that she was adopted by the Jedi Masters Ryen and Ocera after her parents died. Thus, the validity of the letter's contents are suspect.

  1. SWTOR mini STAR WARS: The Old Republic - Question ! :) - Page 3 on The Old Republic's official website (backup link) places Star Wars: The Old Republic's base game content about ten to twelve years after the signing of the Treaty of Coruscant, which is dated to 3653 BBY by Star Wars: The Old Republic Encyclopedia. The Prologue and Act I of the class storylines are assumed to take place in 3643 BBY, as they are roughly concurrent to each other and the Jedi Knight Act I storyline is dated to 3643 BBY by The Old Republic — The Lost Suns 2. Additionally, SWTOR mini Forums: Dear Story Team, What Year Are We Currently In? on The Old Republic's official website (backup link) and Star Wars: The Old Republic Encyclopedia establish that the Battle of Ilum and the end of Act III for the class stories occur in 3640 BBY. Additionally, Act II for all classes, while featuring conflict between the two factions, occurs prior to the official collapse of the Treaty of Coruscant, which The Old Republic: Annihilation places in the middle of 3641 BBY. Taken together, this means that base game content spans from 3643 BBY to 3640 BBY, and the class storylines extend over this period, this article assumes that Act II takes place within 3642 BBY and the first half of 3641 BBY. In the letter, Asher is said to be nearly sixteen years old, and since the conversation "Fear and Longing" takes place after Ashara Zavros is acquired as a companion in Act II, that places his birth date in approximately 3658 BBY.
