The Arkanian Dawn was a freighter owned by the enslaver Krastic Tarta during the Imperial Era.[1] By 10 BBY,[2] Tarta had the vessel respond to a distress call from a privateer's starship that had crashed landed on an unnamed planet. Although Tarta found the crashed vessel to be completely abandoned, the slaver discovered a native sentient species he named the Purple Ones. The slaver then wrote about these events in the book known as the Smuggler's Guide, which he had discovered on board a second crashed ship and decided to keep safe on the Arkanian Dawn.[1]

After capturing seven villages of the natives, Tarta left the planet on the Arkanian Dawn with the ship's holds entirely full of slaves which he intended to sell at the slave markets of the planet Chalcedon. However, upon landing on Chalcedon, his slaves revolted against him, killing Tarta and seizing the Arkanian Dawn.[1]

Behind the scenes

The Arkanian Dawn was first mentioned in the new Star Wars canon in the 2018 reference book Star Wars: Smuggler's Guide, which was written by Daniel Wallace.[1] It originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was created for the 1993 Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game supplement Galaxy Guide 9: Fragments from the Rim, which was written by Simon Smith and Eric S. Trautmann, with illustrations by Mike Vilardi.[3]

  2. The entry mentioning the Arkanian Dawn in Star Wars: Smuggler's Guide takes place chronologically prior to an entry written by Tobias Beckett. Solo: A Star Wars Story depicts Beckett's death on Savareen and Solo: A Star Wars Story The Official Guide dates the events on Savareen in the film to nine years after the Proclamation of the New Order. Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates the proclamation to 19 BBY, meaning Beckett's death must take place in 10 BBY, and so his entry in the guide and those chronologically before it must all be set prior to or during 10 BBY.
