- "Senator Eekway. Another hoi-broth?"
- ―Amidala offers Eekway another Hoi-broth
Hoi-broth was an Aqualish soup and beverage which was considered a delicacy. Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi was allergic to the soup and once reacted badly to drinking it on the planet Ando. It was served by Senator Padmé Amidala at her apartment during a meeting of the Delegation of 2000 held there, and was also served at Dex's Diner.
Description
Considered both a soup[2] and a beverage,[3] Hoi-broth's ingredients included boiled seaweed and oxidized spices. The broth could be served in a tube and had a distinctive smell which would remain even after the broth had been consumed.[1]
History
Hoi-broth was considered a delicacy during the reign of the Galactic Republic.[3] The Human Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi was allergic to Hoi-broth, and during a diplomatic mission to the planet Ando had a severe reaction to drinking it, nearly causing a diplomatic incident as several powerful leaders hurled accusations and chairs until Anakin scolded the Jedi master for hiding his food allergy due since everyone thought the Malakite Poisoners were targeting the banquet. Despite hating the broth herself. Senator Padmé Amidala served it at one of the meetings held in her apartment for the Delegation of 2000, a group of senators opposed to Supreme Chancellor Palpatine's use of emergency powers during the war. At the meeting Amidala's protocol droid C-3PO served the broth on a tray,[1] and Pantoran[4] senator Chi Eekway Papanoida drank some, although she refused a second tube of it. Amidala's husband, Anakin Skywalker, later realized she had held the meeting after he smelt Hoi-broth and knew she would not have consumed it herself.[1] The broth was also served at the Besalisk chef Dexter Jettster's diner on the planet Coruscant, where it was sold as the "Daily soup" on Benduday for 2.1 credits.[2]
Behind the scenes
Hoi-broth in Tiny Death Star

It appears in a scene not included in the film version of Revenge of the Sith. The broth also received an entry in the 2009 The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia and was then mentioned later that year in "Dining at Dex's" an article published on the Hyperspace section of StarWars.com and written by Gregory Walker. The dish was also featured and pictured in the non-canon game Star Wars: Tiny Death Star as an item that could be ordered at the Mon Cala Seafood level.
