An Alderaanian fleet trooper helmet also referred to as a service helmet or an iron rebel mask, was an elongated helmet used by the Alderaanian consular security, members of the Alliance to Restore the Republic and the New Republic army.
Description
The helmet was referred to as an Alderaanian fleet trooper helmet,[1] a service helmet,[3] and an iron rebel mask[4] It was a white elongated helmet with a rear portion that extended down behind an individual to act as a neck guard. To keep the helmet securely fastened in place, a strap extended from each side of the helmet; meeting in the middle with a buckle integrate in a chin rest. The helmets commonly included an adjustable polarized visor which could be lowered to protect the wearer's eyes. Many helmets also included an integrated comlink; built into the left side of the helmet and an antenna extended upwards.[1]
History

The helmets were used by as part of the uniform of Alderaanian consular security during the Imperial Era. As part of the Royal House of Alderaan's secret support for the Alliance to Restore the Republic, it allowed members of the Alliance to "steal" its starships, including the some which contained shipments of fleet trooper helmets.[1]
By 2 BBY,[5] members of the Rebel Alliance had began using the helmets as part of an military uniform while at their base on the moon Yavin 4.[6] During the same time, at least one flagman at the base used a variation of the helmet without its polarizing visor.[7] The rebels continued to use the helmet and, by 0 BBY,[8] technicians and other ground personal at the base used variation of the helmet both without visors and some without comlinks.[1] Several fleet troopers aboard the Tantive IV also utilized the visor-less version of the helmet while defending the corvette during a boarding action by the Galactic Empire.[9]
It continued to be used by rebel members through out the Galactic Civil War including members of Typhoon Squadron while they were stationed on the jungle planet Akiva in the Outer Rim Territories[4] during 3 ABY.[10]
During that year, a human thief named Kay Vess stole a grey version of the helmet from Typhoon Squadron's Kivo-Base in the Myrra Valley on Akiva.[4]
After the Alliance to Restore the Republic founded the New Republic by in 4 ABY, soldiers began using the helmet as part of their new uniform.[2]
Behind the scenes
The helmet first appearead though unidentified in the 1977 film Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.[9] It was first identified as a "Alderaanian fleet trooper helmet" in the twentieth issue of Star Wars Helmet Collection published by De Agostini on May 20, 2015.[1] It was later identified as a "service helmet" in the 2016 reference book, Star Wars: Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide written by Pablo Hidalgo.[3] The 2024 video game, Star Wars Outlaws developed by Massive Entertainment included the "iron rebel mask", a collectible speeder trophy which players could use to custimize the appearance of their S57 Cardinal speeder bike.[4]
