- "This reluctance to embrace tactical innovation, plus emerging resistance among some officers to the Empire's harsh methods, cost the Imperial military a variety of skilled analysts and tacticians, most notably Adar Tallon who defected to the Rebel Alliance having served with distinction in the Republic's military."
- ―Historian Beaumont Kin on Tallon in The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire
Adar Tallon was a human individual that served with distinction in the armed forces of the Galactic Republic and subsequently as an officer of the Galactic Empire prior to his defection to the Alliance to Restore the Republic. As an Alliance officer, Tallon authored Treatise on Starfighter Tactics, a book that explored and codified starfighter engagement and techniques.
Biography
Adar Tallon was a human[1] individual who served with distinction in the Galactic Republic's armed forces and later as an Imperial officer in the Galactic Empire before he defected to the Rebel Alliance and became an officer there. Following his defection, Tallon authored Treatise on Starfighter Tactics, a book that explored the rules of starfighter engagement in detail and codified starfighter techniques. Tallon examined and formulated five important moments in any battle, describing them as Detection, Closing, Attack, Maneuver, and Disengagement; which were collectively referred to as the Five Stages of Combat.[2]
Tallon at one point observed a hologram of a battle between several rebel warships and an Imperial-class Star Destroyer.[1] In 35 ABY,[4] the historian and Resistance paramilitary member Beaumont Kin mentioned Adar Tallon in[3] his[5] book The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire. The book included a citation to the Rebel Alliance Archives, Section: Defections & Debriefings, File: Adar Tallon.[3]
Personality and traits
Adar Tallon had light skin, blue eyes, and black hair.[1]
Skills and abilities
Beaumont Kin believed Tallon to be a notable example of a skilled analyst and tactician who left the Empire for the Alliance.[3]
Equipment
In at least one occasion, Tallon wore an Alliance officer military uniform that included black gloves and a beige collared shirt with pins that was worn under a brown military tunic.[1]
Behind the scenes
Adar Tallon was first mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in the twenty-ninth issue of De Agostini's Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon model-building magazine[2] released around July 22, 2015.[6] Tallon was pictured in the Sector Fleet Rules PDF released by Fantasy Flight Games for Star Wars: Armada,[7] a miniatures space warfare game.[8]
Adar Tallon originated from the Star Wars Legends continuity, where he debuted in the Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game adventure book Tatooine Manhunt, which was published in 1988 and authored by both Bill Slavicsek and Daniel Greenberg.[9] Tallon was subsequently pictured in the LucasArts video game Star Wars: Rebellion, which was released in 1998.[10]

- ↑ Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire states that thirty years have passed since the end of the Galactic Civil War and months have passed since the Battle of Exegol. As Star Wars: Timelines dates the end of the war to 5 ABY and the Battle of Exegol to 35 ABY, the in-universe The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire must have been published in 35 ABY.
