The Aakaash system was located in the Oplovis sector. According to Mostima, the population of the system was almost completely human with a population of 174.2 billion. It was largely independent from the Galactic Republic despite being a member world and was ruled by the Land & Sky Corporation. The population was seen as rather xenophobic compared to most worlds of the Republic. The star system had its own currency. The system also had its own language that was considered to be very difficult to learn.[1]
History
The original colonization of the Aakaash system was led by the Ma family millennia before 200 BBY. The original pioneers included not only humans, but also various aliens including Twi'lek, Ithorians, and Weequay. However, by the time the system had developed cities these groups had disappeared. The Ma family ruled the system for some time before the Nan, Xia, and Chen families also rose to prominence from a former position of vassalage. It was the Nan family which planned and led the colonization and development of the planet Wind after a meeting on Lake 101.[1]
Around 300 BBY,[3] a suspect disappearance of a group of Gotal occurred without a proper explanation from the ruling corporation. This caused many Gotal to be wary of the sector to the extent that it was extremely rare for one to find a Gotal in the system.[1]
Behind the scenes
The Aakaash system appears in the 2020 novel The Vow of Silver Dawn. The Chinese novel identifies the star system as "乾星系," which, in the context of Chinese philosophy, means "Heaven system," but also identifies the system as "乾坤星系" in some chapters. Akasha is a Sanskrit word referring to the "ether" or "space," a similar concept in Indian and Buddhist philosophy, and is a probable origin of the official English naming of this system as Aakaash. Notably, the major celestial and orbiting bodies of the system (Heaven, Land, Mountain, Thunder, Water, Fire, Wind, and Lake) correspond to the eight trigrams of Chinese philosophy.
