The ACP Repeater Gun was a heavy repeating blaster produced by Arakyd Industries and sold for 1,000 credits. Initially designed for planetary defense forces who deemed it too expensive and underpowered, it found popularity with mercenaries and criminals as an effective suppression weapon. Among mercenaries and enslavers, the repeater became known as the Trandoshan Chopper, while members of the Gank species called it the Nar Shaddaa Grinder.

Description

The ACP Repeater Gun was a heavy repeating blaster with medium range and auto-fire and stun settings. It had a compact frame with a blocky body and short, thin barrel, below which a thin handle curved beneath the weapon, pointing back toward the handle and trigger. The repeater had a high energy output and rate of fire, making it an effective suppression weapon.[1]

History

The ACP Repeater Gun was designed by Arakyd Industries prior to the Clone Wars,[1] which began in 22 BBY.[2] The company also made the similarly-named ACP Array Gun, which was fully titled the Accelerated Charged Particle Array Gun.[3] It was intended for use by local planetary defense forces; however, the purchasing agents for most planets decided that it was both too underpowered to act as a primary urban combat weapon and, at one thousand credits a blaster, too expensive. Limited purchases were made for special forces units who liked the weapon's compact frame.[1]

The ACP Repeater Gun was also known as the Nar Shaddaa Grinder, referencing the moon Nar Shaddaa (pictured).

Eventually, the repeater found a home on the secondary market, where it became popular with mercenaries and criminals due to its energy output and fire rate. Criminals favored how its suppression abilities could be used to force pursuers behind cover, allowing a clean getaway, and how quickly crowds scattered upon hearing a short burst from an ACP Repeater Gun fired into the air. The weapon earned the nickname of Trandoshan Chopper among mercenaries and enslavers,[1] referencing the Trandoshan species native to the planet Trandosha,[4] and was called the Nar Shaddaa Grinder by killers among the Gank species,[1] referencing the moon Nar Shaddaa, a hotbed of criminal activity.[3]

Behind the scenes

In the current Star Wars canon, the ACP Repeater Gun was mentioned in Gadgets and Gear, a Star Wars Roleplaying supplement published by Fantasy Flight Games in 2019.[1] The weapon originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it first appeared in the LucasArts video game Star Wars: Republic Commando,[5] which was released on February 28, 2005.[6] The weapon was then identified as the Accelerated Charged Particle Repeater Gun in the official Prima game guide for Republic Commando, which was written by Michael Knight[7] and published on March 8, 2005.[8]
