The A-LT Utility Droid was a model of domed and tread-wheeled droid. Although they were designed as astromech droids, A-LTs were often adapted for more menial tasks. For example, some had their domes removed, which exposed their cranial circuitry but allowed them to serve food and drinks on a tray.[1] One such unit, PA-LT4, had the said modifications to serve the guests aboard Dryden Vos' yacht, First Light.[4] During the Galactic Civil War, both the Galactic Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic used modified A-LTs to bypass walls and overload the circuitry of enemy turrets on the battlefield.[5]
The dome of an A-LT was compatible with the body of an R-series astromech droid.[6]
Behind the scenes
- "On Jyn’s homestead, Gareth [Edwards] wanted to see some agricultural droids, so we came up with an astromech—something Artoo-esque, but a bit wider, a bit stumpier. He’s dirty and dusty, his dome fogged and yellow from the sun."
- ―Jake Lunt Davies
The A-LT Utility Droid first appeared in the 2016 Anthology film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.[8] Concept art of the droid titled "AGRICULTURAL DROID VERSION 99X" was done by Jake Lunt Davies and was designed on the wishes of the film's director Gareth Edwards as a agricultural droid for the Erso homestead on Lah'mu.[7] However the droid was ultimately not used in the scene in favor of the[8] SE-2 worker droid,[9] also designed by Lunt Davies.[7] The A-LT Utility Droid was subsequently first identified in the mobile video game Star Wars: Commander.[3]
