The A-180 blaster, also known as the A180 pistol or simply the A-180, was a modular blaster manufactured by BlasTech Industries. It could be configured to serve as a rifle, pistol, sniper rifle, and ion launcher.

The A-180 blaster,[1] or simply the A-180,[7] was a modular blaster produced by BlasTech Industries[1] that had a highly versatile design. The weapon had multiple configurations[5] that made it perfect for unexpected situations.[7] It could be easily reconfigured from a blaster pistol[5] identified as the A180 pistol[1] to a blaster rifle, a sniper rifle/longblaster,[5] or a portable ion launcher depending on the situation.[2]

The pistol, at the core of the weapon, featured a crescent-shaped trigger and a cylindrical-shaped upper design. To expand to a blaster rifle, a top-fitting lock was added to hold a separate, larger assembly to the front. The rifle configuration accepted a side-loading magazine, reminiscent of an E-11. A barrel extension and extendable stock could be fitted to complete the sniper configuration.[5]

Used during the reign of the Galactic Empire, one such pistol was wielded by Jyn Erso of the Alliance to Restore the Republic.[4] Zaina, who had fought as a member of the Rebel Alliance, thought highly of the A-180 and had experience with the weapon. She was able to use two A-180s—identified as the "Signal A-180" and "Infiltration A-180," respectively—within the Grand Arena as part of the Hunters of the Outer Rim.[7] By 9 ABY,[8] the A-180 was used by the New Republic soldiers like Lieutenant Lant Davan,[6] and, decades later, it was used in its sniper configuration by Resistance forces.[5]

Behind the scenes

Matthew Savage took part in the design of the concept art for the blaster and expansions.[9]

The core pistol prop was developed from the lower and upper receiver of the German P-08 Luger.[10]

A version of the reconfigurable blaster appeared in the Vintage-collection 3.75" Jyn Erso action figure and the "Sergeant Jyn Erso" Black Series release (2016).[11]
