Roller Coaster is a VTech handheld game that was a part of there Time & Fun line of handhelds which were made at the time of Game & Watch's popularity.

Gameplay

The game has three different game modes, Mode A (Easy), Mode B (Hard), and timer. The main game plays like Nintendo's Fireman, but instead of four sets of buttons (two on each side) uses just two directional buttons.

In this game you have to keep the carts from falling off the tracks by holding a track up where it's missing. Once you move to one of the three spots that track will disappear as you are always holding a single track piece. You must juggle the three sections of coaster as the people come from the right side and leave through the left.

Other features

The system has a few other notable features such as a physical compass and light on the upper left and right areas of the handheld. The light is activated by holding the button down, and these tools were added to give the device more multi purpose use along side the main game.

Along side those is also the built in time feature. This also has an alarm that you can set.

Trivia

  • This game is based off Nintendo's Manhole, and more notably Fireman due to it moving only left and right instead of Manhole's 4 directional buttons.

Technical Info

  • The handheld uses two LR44/SR44 button cell batteries.
  • Page 2 of the game's manual shows the system's display with all the portions of the screen lit up without the background.
    • This lets us see that the amount of carts per section going down towards the player (from right to left) are 5, 4, & 3.
