Zalem was a Dathomirian Zabrak[3] female who was native to the[1] Outer Rim Territories[4] planet Dathomir. They were the Clan Mother of the Nightsister coven of witches. Her successor was Mother Talzin, who took over after they were killed by Jedi Master Quinlan Vos,[1] by 50 BBY.[2]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, Zalem was mentioned in the Jedi Temple Archives set of Topps trading cards released on August 21, 2015.[5] Zalem originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where she first appeared in the twenty-third issue of the Star Wars: Republic comic series, written by Pat Mills, penciled by Ramón F. Bachs, and colored by Dave McCaig, published by Dark Horse Comics on October 25, 2000.[6] Zalem was originally killed by her own daughter, Ros Lai, in the twenty-sixth issue of the same series.[7]

Star Wars: The Clone Wars — "Nightsisters"
- ↑ Talzin was still the Mother of the Nightsisters by the time they were wiped out by Grievous. According to Star Wars: Galactic Atlas, the Battle of Dathomir took place in 20 BBY. Thus, Talzin was Mother up until 20 BBY.
