Zabrak Spines were a species of[2] tree[1] that grew on the planet Umbara, a world on which it was constantly night.[2] The plant was much taller than a human and consisted of a wide black trunk with multiple branches rising from its top.[3] Each branch ended in a bioluminescent red spike. The plant shared its name with the Zabrak species,[2] who were native to the planet Iridonia.[4]
During the Clone Wars, the Grand Army of the Republic's 501st Legion captured a ridge lined with Zabrak Spines immediately after deploying on Umbara, and then made their way through Zabrak Spine forests toward the world's capital, eventually having to proceed down the main road into the city, which was also lined with Zabrak Spines. After falling back from their attack on the capital,[3] the clone troopers instead moved to capture an Umbaran base surrounded by Zabrak Spine forests.[1]
Behind the scenes
Zabrak Spines first appeared in "Darkness on Umbara,"[3] the seventh episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season Four, which aired on October 28, 2011.[5] The species was first identified in the 2017 reference book Star Wars: The Visual Encyclopedia.[2]
