Yoss was a Gungan general who served in the Gungan Grand Army on the planet Naboo.[1] In 32 BBY,[2] the Gungan Grand Army planned to retaliate against the Trade Federation, which had invaded the planet, after forming an alliance with the human Naboo population. Yoss and the Gungan Grand Army waited on the edge of the Gungan swamps while the Jedi Knights Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi raced to activate a planetary deflector shield to protect the army from aerial bombardment. Yoss suggested to General Tobler Ceel that the Gungans move onto the Great Grass Plains to protect the swamps from being destroyed. However, Ceel insisted that they wait for the shield to be activated.[1]
Behind the scenes
Yoss was present in a scene in the revised rough draft of the prequel trilogy film Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, written by George Lucas. The character was ultimately not included in the finished film, nor was the sequence involving the Jedi activating the planetary shield generator present. Yoss's scene in the script was then described in the 1999 CD-ROM Star Wars: Episode I Insider's Guide.[1]
