The yoghurt plant,[2] also spelt as "yogurt plant," was a type of paludial fungi that grew on the planet Dagobah.[1] In 3 ABY,[3] there was a good area for finding the fungus near Dragonsnake Bog, where the exiled alien Jedi Yoda lived in a hut. While living there, he spent part of each day foraging for food along the bog shores around his home, gathering yoghurt plants alongside herbs, spices, and fruits to flavor rootleaf stews and flower petal salads.[1]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, yoghurt plants were first mentioned in the 2015 reference book Star Wars: Journey Through Space, which was written by Ryder Windham.[2] The 2016 reference book Star Wars: Complete Locations then introduced the alternate spelling "yogurt plant."[4] The fungus originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was first mentioned in the 2004 reference book Inside the Worlds of Star Wars Trilogy which was written by James Luceno.[5]
