The Corellian Engineering Corporation's YZ-900 was an unusually heavily-armed cargo vessel.[1]
The design was part of the YV series, which CEC introduced during the reign of the Galactic Empire. Although the designers officially insisted that they were just well-armed freighters, and the Empire accepted this, it was widely assumed that they were really intended as paramilitary vessels.[1]
Measuring 54.5 meters in length, the YZ-900 was armed with a pair of heavy twin laser cannon turrets in the centre of the hull, two double laser cannons on the wings, and concussion missile launchers firing forward and aft. The YZ-900 required a crew of several people to operate, including gunners, and could carry up to fourteen passengers and 500 metric tons of cargo.[1]
One YZ-900, the White Wing, was believed to have been used as an assault ship by Rebel Alliance commandos making raids in Hutt Space.
Behind the scenes
The YZ-900 was introduced in Star Wars Gamer 2. The detailed statistics given there are for a specific modified ship, the White Wing, but the source describes in detail how this ship varies from the basic design, allowing the statistics of a standard YZ-990 to be extrapolated. However, the source does not enumerate the exact number of concussion missiles, or the exact size of the standard crew of a stock YZ-900 (though it is evidently larger than the White Wing's minimal complenent of one pilot and two optional gunners).[1]
