The White Wing was a customized YZ-900 freighter. The ship sacrificed weaponry and added extensive droid automation; this lowered the amount of crewmen necessary to run the ship, so much that a single individual could pilot the ship.[1]
The automation involved linking the ship's sensors directly to a group of astromechs. To simplify the weaponry, the fore and aft concussion missile tubes were removed completely, and the wing-mounted lasers were fixed so they could only fire forward, although the turret-mounted heavy lasers in the centre of the hull were retained. However, even with this reduced armament, and droid-assisted targeting computers, a single pilot could not control all the weaponry at once, and it was more effectively handled with two additional gunners on board.[1]
During period leading to the fall of the Empire, the White Wing made frequent trips to and from Hutt Space. Rumour claimed that the ship was being used by the Rebel Alliance to deploy special forces units for attacks against Hutt targets and Imperial outposts, although the truth was not really known.[1]
Whoever the ship's original owners were, they abandoned the ship shortly after the termination of the Galactic Civil War. The ship spent some time simply sitting in a docking bay, and was eventually sold to recover the credits owed for its time there.[1]
