The YG-4212 mining freighter was a model of mining freighter manufactured by the Corellian Engineering Corporation.[1] One such vessel, the Remora, had been retrofitted for stealth infiltration and was utilized by the fledgling Clone Underground in operations against the Galactic Empire[2] around 18 BBY.[4]

The YG-4214 mining freighter was a freighter and transport produced by the Corellian Engineering Corporation as part of their YG-series line of starships.[1] The vessel had a long, sturdy hull, and a spacious cockpit section at the front of the ship. It had four engines attached on the rear, with two on either side, and detachable leech vessel that could be used to board another starship.

The leech was connected externally at the midsection of the vessel, and could be accessed from the interior. Despite its original purpose, it could be retrofitted for stealth infiltration and move at high speeds. The ship could be operated by only one pilot, and hold a several passengers, including boarding troops to be ferried to other ships via the leech vessel.[2]

The YG-4214 was equipped with two forward-facing laser cannons, mounted below the cockpit. It was also equipped with two twin-barrel laser cannon turrets, mounted dorsally just behind the cockpit.

The YG-4214 was capable of reaching very high speeds with its engines, which made it useful for fast strikes and outrunning pursuers in combat situations. The ship was also equipped with a hyperdrive and deflector shields. The ship also had life support systems equipped to support its crew.[2]

Role

The YG-4214 was designed as a mining freighter, used as a transport for people and cargo. However, it could also be retrofitted for stealth infiltration, making it ideal for insertion and extraction missions.[2]

History

One such YG-4214, the Remora, was utilized by the Clone Underground during their operations against the Galactic Empire around 18 BBY. It was mainly used by Clone Force 99 member Echo during his tenure with the Underground. Echo led a team of rogue clones in attacking a Gozanti-class cruiser of the Imperial Advanced Science Division in the Balmorra system to rescue clone captain Howzer and several other clones who were being transported to the planet Wayland. Using the Remora and its leech vessel, Remora-one, the clones crippled and boarded the ship, successfully rescuing their brothers and escaping before Imperial reinforcements arrived and destroyed the cruiser only moments after the leech vessel detached. Remora provided cover for its secondary vessel until it docked before jumping away.

Later, Echo took the Remora to Pabu to rendezvous with his former squad, Clone Force 99. Having rescued Omega and Crosshair from Imperial imprisonment at Mount Tantiss, the squad joined Echo on a mission to Barton IV to decrypt data off Nala Se's datapad Omega had taken with her from the Tantiss Base. After their mission to Barton IV, Echo dropped off the Bad Batch on Teth, where the Underground's base of operations was located, before taking the Remora to a rendezvous to meet clone trooper Gregor.[5] After picking up Gregor, they returned to Teth, learning their base had been discovered by Imperial forces and was under attack. Echo flew the Remora to an extraction point, where clone captain Rex, Howzer, and the Bad Batch boarded the ship and escaped their pursuers.[6]

Behind the scenes

The YG-4214's design was based on the Meson Martinet, a ship from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.[7]

  4. Per the reasoning here, Season 2 of Star Wars: The Bad Batch takes place around 18 BBY. The tally marks made by Omega in The Bad Batch Season 3's first episode, "Confined," indicate the episode must take place at least twenty-one standard days following her capture as depicted in the Season 2 episode "Plan 99." According to StarWars.com "Confined" Trivia Guide | Star Wars The Bad Batch on StarWars.com (backup link), Omega spends about 164 further days in captivity by the end of "Confined." As such, the events of Season 3 must begin around 18 BBY.
