Mount Tantiss

Mount Tantiss was a mountain on the planet Wayland that hosted Tantiss Base. During the early days of the Imperial Era, the Galactic Empire relocated its cloning program from the extragalactic planet Kamino to the Wayland facility,^[2] establishing it as the headquarters for the secret Advanced Science Division.^[3] Medical personnel, including the kidnapped Nala Se, were brought to Mount Tantiss for the cloning effort.^[2] The mountain included several facilities for the cloning program including holding cells for Se^[4] and rogue clones,^[3] and an underground containment zone for cloned Zillo Beasts. Mount Tantiss and its facilities were heavily guarded by clone commandos, Imperial royal guards, and TK stormtroopers.^[4]

Behind the scenes

Mount Tantiss first appeared in Star Wars canon in the August 13, 2021 season one finale of the animated TV show Star Wars: The Bad Batch named "Kamino Lost,"^[2] and was first identified as Mount Tantiss in the corresponding episode guide on StarWars.com.^[1] In Star Wars Legends, Mount Tantiss was created by the author Timothy Zahn and first appeared in the 1991 novel Heir to the Empire.^[5] In the Legends continuity, Mount Tantiss was home to Emperor Palpatine's secret storehouses, including thousands of Spaarti cloning cylinders, making the installation related to Imperial cloning technology in both continuities.^[6]
