  2. If it weren't for Greyman, I would never have become as involved as I am in the more community-centered aspects of the site, especially the GA process. He is, by far, one of the single most professional editors on this site. I'm not sure it's an entirely fair way of describing him, but the best word that comes to mind regarding his editing style is: grace. He flows through conversation and research with a grace that most of us, myself included, would do well to emulate. I've never seen a single edit/message/post even bordering on a personal attack and, in my experience, he's yet to edit anything in a manner which detracts from the article/conversation.   8. I'm not going to be around on the 16th, so I'm voting now. In any event, Greyman is an incredibly dedicated user. He has over 5,000 edits, and he hasn't even contributed for 6 months, he writes out FA's and GA's very fast, and, like School of Thrawn says, he hasn't once made a remark even close to a personal attack, as far as I can see. In my opinion, Greyman is an exemplary Wookieepedian who definitely has worked hard enough to gain admin power. Congratulations, Greyman, and keep up the great work.   9. Greyman has helped me a lot when it comes to getting to know the wiki, its mechanics and methods, as well as helping me to get the most out of the articles I create and improve. Questions & Answers

1. Why do you want to become an administrator?

  • It was first brought up to me on IRC, but I didn’t give it much thought at first, thinking it was not a serious conversation. However, I started thinking more and more about it, and before long I had decided that it was, indeed, something I was interested in. I love editing here; I enjoy helping out new users, and answering any questions that are put forth to me. I also feel that being an administrator will provide me more opportunities with which to help out around the site in a more “administrative” role—whether it is helping out where needed, looking for a resolution to disputes, or maintaining the site, I feel that my being an Administrator would only add to the site, and in the end, that’s ultimately about I came here to do—help improve Wookieepedia!

2. In your opinion, what is the role of an administrator?

  • When I first came to Wookieepedia, I paid close attention to how several established users contributed to the site. What I didn’t realize, but soon discovered, was that these users were actually Administrators, and it was their job to not only contribute to the site, but also to help safeguard it against any misinformation and the likes. However, I also believe that an administrator’s job is to help improve the site any way possible, not just the routes that they agree with, or which fit their own agenda’s, but any way which helps the general overall wellbeing of the encyclopedia. Also, being a go-to person for any problem, or compliment, is another important role of an Administrator.

3. In your view, do administrators hold a technical or political position?

  • I personally believe that being an Administrator is a position which regulates both the technical and political sides of the site. When a problem arises with article formatting, wiki code, or the general appearance of the site, it is ultimately the job of the Administrators to remedy the problems. The political side of the coin, I feel, revolves around presenting the site, lending a helpful hand where needed, and abiding by policy as required.

4. How do you feel admins should use their power/stand in comparison with other users?

  • To a) Protect the site, b) Contribute in an effective and demonstrative manner, and c) be an example to both new and established users—whether it be through general edits, or upholding policy, no matter how obscure.

5. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?

  • No, I have not been in any edit conflicts during my time as a contributor, and anything that could/would be seen as a potential “conflict”, I would approach through simple probing questions to find out what was/is trying to be done. If needed, this could be used as an example of how I try to remedy potential conflicts.

6. Of your articles or contributions to Wookieepedia, are there any with which you are particularly pleased, and why?

  • I’m particularly pleased with the amount of articles from the Tales of the Jedi comic series that I have been able to take to either FA and/or GA. That series of comics is my favorite in the Star Wars universe, and the fact that I can use that to help promote otherwise unknown articles is a great enjoyment for me. Also, I’ve rather enjoyed being able to work in conjuction with other users, such as Ataru, on some major characters such as Wes Janson and Mara Jade Skywalker.

7. What sysop chores do you anticipate helping with?

  • If granted Adminship I could see myself taking an active role in patrolling the Recent Changes and the Harassment in Progress chores. I would also enjoy helping out with the Unused Images project, and would anticipate a healthy enjoyment in searching out red links and Wanted Pages.

8. How important is it for you to be involved in things such as CT, IDrive, FA, and other community-centered items that involve discussion and voting?

  • To be involved in the events of the community is very important to me, and as of right now, I actively participate in such community-centered items as FA’s, GA’s, being an Inq, and watching the CT for areas in which I can be helpful.

9. Do you think admins performing actions (I.e. deletions, blocks, etc.) for reasons not covered on policy should be sanctioned/punished? If so, how?

  • I believe that these type of issues should approached and considered on a case by case basis. Doing the right thing, does not always mean doing the popular thing.

10. What is your policy, if any, of welcoming new users? Should you welcome a new user, do you look at his/her contributions beforehand? What about anonymous IPs?

  • Unless the new user is actively and openly vandalising articles, or harassing/stalking users, then I believe in rolling out the red welcome mat and making those new users who are here to help the site, feel welcome. I’ve never had a problem with helping them out, and pointing them in the right direction—and I feel like I’ve done a good job at doing that.

11. How would you react if someone undeleted an article you'd mistakenly speedied? Under what circumstances would you consider it appropriate to undelete an article mistakenly speedied by another administrator, if any, and how would you approach this task?

  • The most simple answer is: Take it to the Talk Pages! :D If an admin undeleted an article that I either mistakenly or purposely deleted, then I have no problem with asking them why. I believe it’s important to not view things as a personal attack, or an act of undermining my authority. For the vast majority of possible cases, talking the situation over like adults, and fellow admins, is often more than enough to resolve the issue.

12. How would you react if your user page was vandalized? Under what circumstances would you block the offender? Is there anything else that you would do in this situation?

  • If my user page was vandalized, I would simply warn a first time offender (if they had not already been warned). If that said user continued to vandalise my user page (or any user page, for that matter) after they had been warned, then I would follow our Blocking policy. Once again, it’s not something that I’m going to take personally. I’m here to contribute in quality, not get upset over immature users/anons.

13. Under what circumstances would you consider blocking an established user?

  • When policy has been clearly ignored, and all attempts of warning have also been ignored. Rules are there for a reason, if you don’t like them, be prepared for the consequences from the site Administrators.

14. If you could change any one thing about Wookieepedia, what would it be?

  • Hmmm, I’d probably lay down some stricter rules for the GA process.

15. Would you look at a glass to be half-empty or half-full?

  • Half-empty? Half-full!? How about you just drink your blue milk and be happy! :P

16. Do you feel the current blocking policy is too restrictive, not restrictive enough, or OK as it is?

  • I believe that parts of it are dead on, while others, such as the 3RR policy, need updating with more clarification. I believe that the current 3RR CT is a good thing, and view it as a step forward in helping evolve the site.

17. Have you ever considered becoming a regular visitor to the Wookieepedia IRC chat?

  • I already am :) . You can find me there under my nick of Greyman.

18. How do you feel about people who already have some influence on other Star Wars communities (TheForce.Net, StarWars.com) trying to change policies here?

  • If they are not users who contribute, then their opinions are rather meaningless to me. Our policies are laid down by our Bureaucrats and Administrators—and that’s enough for me.

19. How many clones do you think fought in the Clone Wars? (Note: You are wrong no matter what answer you give.)

  • Uh, uh, uh...eleven? :P

20. Who is the most awesome Jedi of all time? (Note: The only correct answer is Kyle Katarn.)

  • Oooh, tough one...I mean Kyle Katarn is one tough SOB, but Kyle Katarn is an even tougher SOB. Ugh...this could take a while.

21. Are you or have you ever been a member of the Communist Party?

  • I don’t like the color Red...well, sometimes, heh.

22. What's more important to you: consensus or policy?

  • It depends on the situation at hand—but, when it’s required, I’m a stickler for policy. However, on some issues, we need to have a strong community voice.

23. Have you had any previous leadership experience (in your community, on the web, etc.)?

  • I have numerous leadership experiences from my time in the Army. I’ve led small groups of soldiers, to large groups, and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. My time in the service has given me the confidence to do what needs to be done, when it is required, and through what means are necessary—Being a leader isn`t always about being liked, it`s about doing what`s right.

Those users who I`ve had the pleasure of editing alongside, and/or speaking with on IRC, know what I’m about and how I like to do things—which usually means helping out those who need it, while doing my best to contribute quality articles to the site.
