Graestan (10 users + 9 admins + 3 bureaucrats / 0 users + 0 admins + 0 bureaucrats)

Support
  1. Graestan is an extremely helpful user who is always there to help both new and established users alike. He has demonstrated through his contributions on the FAN and GAN pages, Senate Hall, Consensus thread, and throughout many other avenues, that he understands the mechanics of this site. Likewise, he has throughly demonstrated that he is available and willing to take on additional responsibilities around the site, whether it be patrolling the Recent Changes for vandalism, tagging articles with the appropriate templates, or welcoming/orientating/warning new users. Graestan is also extremely helpful with pointing new users (and also IPs) in the right direction with regards to editing, thus demonstrating a restrained leadership which I feel is quite notable. Likewise, he is ever vigilant in moderating disputes and, to my knowledge, has always tried to walk the straight and narrow, helping bridge some of the considerable gaps which exist around the site. I firmly believe that having Graestan as an Administrator would only benefit the site and add to Wookieepedia's increasing stature through his continued efforts. 2. A very strong support vote here. Graestan exemplifies what it is to be a Wookieepedian, and it's about time he had some real authority to get things done.--Goodwood Redstarbird (For the Rebellion!) 15:27, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

  5. He's a helpful and friendly user, he has worked on many FA's and GA's… But, I just have one question... Why was he not nominated sooner? --Jedimca0(Do or Do Not, There is No Try) 16:41, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

  16. If we have ever had a "de facto administrator," Graestan is it, and has been ever since he lent a solid helping hand at C IV. Unlike past persons claiming that title, I'm happy to make this one de jure. jSarek 14:46, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Questions & Answers
  1. Why do you want to become an administrator?
    • I feel that I could serve the wiki and function as a good user much better with such facilities at my disposal.
  2. In your opinion, what is the role of an administrator?
    • Administrators moderate most of the activity on the wiki. They are judge, jury, and executioner on many issues, and as such they must conduct themselves responsibly and cautiously. Administrators also perform tasks which are beyond the technical abilities of most regular users, and in this respect they serve the community.
  3. In your view, do administrators hold a technical or political position?
    • On a very basic level, I think that good users, particularly vigilant ones, already behave as admins should, but lack some of the facilities that admins possess to deal with certain issues that arise when editing the wiki. In this way, I feel that adminship is a technical position.
  4. How do you feel admins should use their power/stand in comparison with other users?
    • Admins above all should lead by example. Acting with fairness and objectivity is key.
  5. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
    • I have held my ground on certain opinion-based issues as of late, but when it comes down to it, I don't break rules or bully people. I have never had any major edit conflicts, aside from ones regarding the late Jack Nebulax, and I plan to make attempts to talk it out with the other users involved should such a situation arise in the future.
  6. Of your articles or contributions to Wookieepedia, are there any with which you are particularly pleased, and why?
    • I would say that my highest accomplishments so far have been my featured articles, all of which have fallen within the scope of WookieeProject: Tales of the Jedi, a project on which I function as Chief Editor and Greyman as Chief Writer, and which happens to be one of the most successful WookieeProjects to date.
  7. What sysop chores do you anticipate helping with?
    • I am already a rather dedicated patroller of the recent changes, and as such, having powers such as page deletion and blocking will make the process much more streamlined for me.
  8. How important is it for you to be involved in things such as CT, IDrive, FA, and other community-centered items that involve discussion and voting?
    • I think that users, and admins in particular, should carefully weigh the options when they go to vote or discuss such issues, and when they do not have a solid stance on the issue, they should refrain from voting and discussion. In terms of these particular items, I feel that it is important for administrators to become involved; it's part of the job, in my opinion.
  9. Do you think admins performing actions (I.e. deletions, blocks, etc.) for reasons not covered on policy should be sanctioned/punished? If so, how?
    • I think that first and foremost, people should work out their issues with one another, whether it be on talk pages, forums, or in the IRC. When someone is taking their power too far, other admins, and bureaucrats in particular, should step in and ask the admin what his or her intentions are. But just like with regular users, if an admin violates policy, or shows a penchant or operating on the edge of policy, they should be dealt with accordingly.
  10. What is your policy, if any, of welcoming new users? Should you welcome a new user, do you look at his/her contributions beforehand? What about anonymous IPs?
    • I make a point of welcoming and inviting IPs that prove themselves useful to join the wiki. SFH holds up the task of welcoming newly created accounts rather well, but when I see a redlink for the talk page of a user, I try to welcome them as well as pass along any information I feel they should be privy to.
  11. How would you react if someone undeleted an article you'd mistakenly speedied? Under what circumstances would you consider it appropriate to undelete an article mistakenly speedied by another administrator, if any, and how would you approach this task?
    • I sense some controversy may have created this question, but as with all things, I'd try and talk it out with the other administrators in any case before acting. If, however, I sensed something underhanded regarding the other admin's actions, I'd make sure and have the talk in public.
  12. How would you react if your user page was vandalized? Under what circumstances would you block the offender? Is there anything else that you would do in this situation?
    • I'd warn the user if he or she were new. If they had history of any vandalism whatsoever, I'd certainly offer the user a decent block for his or her imprudence. And of course, I'd certainly have a nice blurb waiting on the user's talk page.
  13. Under what circumstances would you consider blocking an established user?
    • Up front, I'd like to state that I don't believe in favoritism. Also, if I truly feel that the user knew better than to commit whatever breach of conduct occurred, I'd certainly make it known. I really wouldn't pause before blocking someone who deserved it, regardless of their societal status on the site.
  14. If you could change any one thing about Wookieepedia, what would it be?
    • Aside from the proper channels, and I do believe that I have personally affected change on the wiki, there are not many things I would change arbitrarily. One thing would be this FA-a-day system we have for 2009. I'd make it FA-every-other-day, instead, and would take place a little sooner, such as June 2008 or so. I'd post my arguments here, but in all honesty, I trust that the Wook is an adaptive enough entity to handle this on its own.
  15. Would you look at a glass to be half-empty or half-full?
    • Typically, when it comes to things on the Wook, I am rather optimistic. I certainly have my head square on my shoulders, however, so nothing underhanded escapes my notice.
  16. Do you feel the current blocking policy is too restrictive, not restrictive enough, or OK as it is?
    • The "admin discretion" decision at the last Mofference, which I added to the agenda myself after watching too many users abuse the rules by skirting the limits, seems to have alleviated my concerns regarding both ends of the spectrum when it comes to blocking.
  17. Have you ever considered becoming a regular visitor to the Wookieepedia IRC chat?
    • You know, I'm there all the time, but I never have actually considered it. It's always completely by accident; that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
  18. How do you feel about people who already have some influence on other Star Wars communities (TheForce.Net, StarWars.com) trying to change policies here?
    • I know full well that this has been a struggle, quiet at times and high-profile at others, that has gone on since the Wook began. I am happy to see that such users have had to adjust to the Wookieepedia way of doing things. We are a well-established and respected fan site in our own right, and I am very proud to say that nothing seems like it could bring the Wook down.
  19. How many clones do you think fought in the Clone Wars? (Note: You are wrong no matter what answer you give.)
    • Somewhere between the answers that Karen Traviss and Curtis Saxton would provide?
  20. Who is the most awesome Jedi of all time? (Note: The only correct answer is Kyle Katarn.)
    • I only pause to consider which incarnation of the Divine Katarn I should give my obeisance to first.
  21. Are you or have you ever been a member of the Communist Party?
    • There Is No Communist Party.
  22. What's more important to you: consensus or policy?
    • I always strive to adhere to policy; the only times I find myself "outside the law" are when I don't actually know of the policy I am violating. Feel free to point out when I am in the wrong. As far as consensus is concerned, I feel that it is important to hold debates and votes when issues arise that really should be solidified into policy.
  23. Have you had any previous leadership experience (in your community, on the web, etc.)?
    • In all honesty, I've learned more about leadership here on the wiki than I have anywhere else. At work, I have been placed in charge of a handful of people numerous times, and I've found that I am not a bad leader. I have also functioned as an elected official for organizations, albeit with less success than at work. I like to lead from the front, never asking others to do what I will not, and my particular talents lie in logistics. I am good at figuring out who needs to be where, and when, to get things done right.
