- I am pleased to nominate DarthRuiz30 as our newest candidate for Wookieepedia administrator. Ruiz joined Wookieepedia in late 2014/early 2015 as part of the first wave of so-called "Canon editors" following the Legends fallout. With nearly 40,000 edits in that time, Ruiz has established himself as one of the leaders of our community. He earned the Rollback responsibility in 2018 and has wielded that tool with the professionalism and trustworthiness we would expect from a potential administrator. Ruiz has indeed become one of our strongest eagle-eyed Recent changes patrollers, regularly helping myself and other administrators to root out serial sockpuppets and other troublemakers through the Wookieepedia IRC channel. He alerts us to so many issues that I've jokingly remarked there several times that we should just make him an admin already so he can stop bothering us. :P But all joking aside, I think that time has come. I have the utmost confidence that Ruiz will do a superior job in wielding the blocking tool in his patrols, and I am ready to welcome him to the team. - Full support from me. Ruiz is a highly trusted member of the community, is extremely active and vigilant, and I think he will make an excellent addition to our admin roster. Tommy

- I'm a little late to the party, but I echo every statement above. In his time here, Ruiz has proven time and time again that not only is he a solid editor, he is a leader. Supreme Emperor (talk) 14:40, July 6, 2019 (UTC)

Optional candidate Q&A
- Why do you want to become an administrator?
- Being an administrator would allow me to improve the Wookieepedia. The admin tools would make that goal easier to accomplish, from deleting vandalism and fanon to help users that need assistance.
- In your opinion, what is the role of an administrator?
- The role of an administrator is to ensure that the polices and guidelines of the site are followed. Also, an administrator is a user that can give advices to other users and can help in mediating any conflict between them.
- In your view, do administrators hold a technical or political position?
- A little bit of both, administrators are no different from other users, they just have extra tools that help them improve the quality of the site, but at the same time they might have political position by being an authority figure in the site.
- How do you feel admins should use their power/stand in comparison with other users?
- Admins shouldn’t use their position as an advantage above other users. Although admins can give advices and help newer users, that doesn’t mean that they’re more important than others.
- Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
- Yes, there’s been several times that I’ve been in conflict and felt stressed for decisions being made, I think it something that happens to all of us at the beginning. Honestly, I could’ve handled better, but those were learning experiences that made grow as an editor here. Now, I think those experience made me realize that communication is the most important thing to deal with conflicts and its something I try to do when I see a conflict going on.
- Of your articles or contributions to Wookieepedia, are there any with which you are particularly pleased, and why?
- I think it would be Tallissan Lintra, that was the first time I did a big expansion and I’m proud of the hard work I invested on it. Also, I really enjoyed my first project of adding the canon appearances for The Clone Wars episodes, that just gave me an excuse to rewatch the entire series.
- What sysop chores do you anticipate helping with?
- Combating vandalism and blocking users that keep disrupting the site. Also deleting articles, that are either fanon or not needed anymore is something that I could do regularly. Also assisting in closing TC’s or CT’s if needed.
- How important is it for you to be involved in things such as CT, FA, GA, and other community-centered items that involve discussion and voting?
- I think its important to be involved in the more crucial parts of the community like CT and Trash compactors, that’s something that I’ve always been part of. And though I’m not that active in the reviewing bodies, I think its important to keep an eye there and help when its needed.
- Do you think admins performing actions (I.e. deletions, blocks, etc.) for reasons not covered on policy should be sanctioned/punished? If so, how?
- I think that if an admin blocked or deleted something it was for a good reason, but it should be investigated to see there wasn’t an abuse of power. I don’t think a punishment or sanction is needed, but it certainly would be necessary to see if that reason needs to become part of a policy.
- What is your policy, if any, of welcoming new users? Should you welcome a new user, do you look at his/her contributions beforehand? What about anonymous IPs?
- I try to welcome all users that edit at least once, it doesn’t matter if the edit was reverted or deleted given that the welcome template contains links to all our important guidelines. For IPs I add the welcome template only If I see that they’re doing edits with good intentions.
- How would you react if someone undeleted an article you'd mistakenly speedied? Under what circumstances would you consider it appropriate to undelete an article mistakenly speedied by another administrator, if any, and how would you approach this task?
- Mistakes happen we’re all humans (I think), and if I deleted something by mistake, I would be grateful for the correction. I would ask the admin who deleted the article first to see the reasoning behind it and to explain the point that maybe it wasn’t necessary or was mistakenly tagged for deletion.
- It wouldn’t be the first time, sometimes trolls or users just want to create chaos in wikis. If it wasn’t a severe vandalism, like racist or personal attacks that would merit an instant cooldown block, I would warn that user in their talk page and hope for an answer that could explain what I did to merit that response.
- Under what circumstances would you consider blocking an established user?
- All users are under the same rules, if the established user ignored warnings or did vandalism I would block them like anyone else.
- If you could change any one thing about Wookieepedia, what would it be?
- I’m not sure what would I change. Maybe see more people reviewing articles.
- Would you look at a glass to be half-empty or half-full?
- Both
- Do you feel the current blocking policy is too restrictive, not restrictive enough, or OK as it is?
- I think that the current policy is okay right now. It has worked for a long time and in case of something new needs to be added there’s always room for a new CT.
- Have you ever considered becoming a regular visitor to the Wookieepedia IRC chat?
- I’ve been a regular visitor for a while now, and I recommend regular editors to join as well.
- How do you feel about people who already have some influence on other Star Wars communities (TheForce.net, StarWars.com) trying to change policies here?
- If the change it’s a good suggestion, then I see no issue there. If the person is trying to influence just for the sake of it, I think it should be ignored and ask the user to help in the community before trying to influence this site.
- How many clones do you think fought in the Clone Wars? (Note: You are wrong no matter what answer you give.)
- Way too many
- Who is the most awesome Jedi of all time? (Note: The only correct answer is Kyle Katarn.)
- The Jedi were real?
- What's more important to you: consensus or policy?
- Policy, they’re the guidelines that can make a consensus work.
- Have you had any previous leadership experience (in your community, on the web, etc.)?
- I don’t think I had a big leadership role before, from time to time I’m the leader at school projects, but that’s it.
- What is your attitude towards users who have quit the site or have been banned, but still continue to attempt to influence the site in any way?
- I don’t see any issue if they left on their own will, we all need a break sometimes. If a banned user waited for the ban to end and they learn from their error, I also don’t see any issue with it. Problem is with perma-ban users, who try to avoid the ban by using sock puppets, those users should be blocked before their intentions disrupt the site.
- What is your wiki philosophy?
- I’m not sure, but it should always be the one that benefits the site.
Thanks for the nomination, I really appreciate it--DarthRuiz30 (talk) 21:32, June 25, 2019 (UTC)
