  • Now, I believe the decision reached below in the comments section is a somewhat arbitrary one. Firmly-established precedent for Canon articles is to note in their BTS the existence of their namesakes (or differently-named counterparts, but that's not the case here) in Legends - and we do not factor in this whether or not we have the authors' confirmation that they were referencing the Legends characters. So in this case, what's essentially being done is an unspoken assumption that the author of the Canon story for some reason couldn't have drawn upon the info about the Legends character - why is that? (This isn't really relevant per se but we do know that Claudia Gray drew on material from the Knights of the Old Republic games, for example.) Note that the aforementioned documentation of namesakes need not employ assumptive phrasing for it to work, either. You don't have to say "the Canon Wrend was influenced by the Legends Wrend" but you can simply say "In Legends, such and such Wrend existed." Imperators II(Talk) 06:53, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
    • I noticed that the Legends page was also only made 2 years after the release of Master & Apprentice. I also do not know myself if there is anyway to determine when exactly Wrend was added to the SWTOR database, it could have been before or after the book came out, as we do know SWTOR has been implementing some canon things into the game Lewisr (talk) 14:28, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
      • That Jedipedia entry says it was "added" to the game in Patch 1.0.0, which means the base game back in 2011. Imperators II(Talk) 15:42, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
        • Yeah sorry that sorta thing meant literally nothing to me as I've no clue. What exactly would it be citeable to? Lewisr (talk) 16:09, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
          • No worries. It should be okay to just cite the whole thing to a double reference of the SWTOR base game + the Jedipedia entry via Template:WebCite. I *think* Fan has referenced Jedipedia on some of his TOR CANs before. Imperators II(Talk) 16:18, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
            • Yo! So, Jedipedia does indeed place the existence of the cut character as dating back to the original release in 2011 (the page only being created in '21 just means that's when someone created it from the files, as I assume it was missed for a decade since it never made it to the game proper. To cite the existence of this character you'll use this: {{Cite_web|url=https://swtor.jedipedia.net/en/npc/darth-wrend|title=Darth Wrend|work=[[Jedipedia]]|archivedate=20230802201007}} while I think all you need to note is that the character "was created for" SWTOR but never made it into the release, while still existing within the files. Fan26 (Talk) 20:12, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
              • Thanks so much Fan, I appreciate it! How's that? Lewisr (talk) 20:39, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
                • FYI, I made a small adjustment since SWTOR doesn't really have a "final product" :P TanDivoInsignia-SenateMurders Anıl Şerifoğlu (talk) 22:19, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
                  • Thanks:P Lewisr (talk) 16:43, 3 August 2023 (UTC)
  • In the body: "once the righteous lost its light" whose light? The prophecy's? Imperators II(Talk) 07:24, 3 August 2023 (UTC)
    • Changed to lost the light per the book, a holdover from before that I missed Lewisr (talk) 16:43, 3 August 2023 (UTC)

Comments

  • Not an objection since I'm not sure about it myself, but do you think this deserves a shout-out in BTS since it predates the novel? Datamined cut content is difficult to source in general, but Jedipedia's SWTOR database has been a pretty reliable source for game-related subjects. TanDivoInsignia-SenateMurders Anıl Şerifoğlu (talk) 17:20, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
    • I did notice the two were linked before starting, but I really don't have any knowledge of it all and I didn't want to make any links between things that could simply just be by chance Lewisr (talk) 17:45, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
      • Fair enough. Though in that case, it might be best to move the SWTOR Wrend to a different namespace without linking them as counterparts. TanDivoInsignia-SenateMurders Anıl Şerifoğlu (talk) 23:27, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
        • Good idea thanks, moved it away from /Legends Lewisr (talk) 00:04, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
