Vessel implants were extremely small, unobtrusive, subdermal cybernetic implants used for data storage. They were composed of a miniaturized, high-capacity mem-stik, equipped with an integrated power cell and a data jack. Vessel implants were typically installed at the back of a user's skull, hidden by hair or a flap of synthskin. They were highly secure, non-networked, and equipped with a stout anti-virus package. They could only be sliced into if their user was incapacitated or if the implant was removed. Users who had vessel implants installed within them were unable to know what information was stored within the implant, unless they uploaded that information themselves. Data was transferred to and from the implant with a fiber-optic cable that could connect to nearly any datapad or computer.[1]

Vessel implants cost 900 credits on the market and were often used by Couriers and Sleeper Agents. Most intelligence agents who used the implant preferred not to know what was contained within them, in order to ensure that they couldn't divulge the information they carried.[1]

Behind the scenes

Vessel implants were first mentioned in Cyphers and Masks,[1] a 2018 sourcebook for the Star Wars: Age of Rebellion roleplaying game published by Fantasy Flight Games.[2]
