This article is about the mythical character. You may be looking for the clone trooper Vere.

Veré was a female character in a legend of[1] the planet Naboo's[2] Futhork calligraphy who was said to be eternal lovers with the male character Set.[1] In 22 BBY, Naboo Senator Padmé Amidala and Jedi Anakin Skywalker[2] adopted "Veré" and "Set" as their respective aliases in order to secretly join in matrimony.[1]

The star-crossed lovers thus presented themselves to Pontifex Maxiron Agolerga of the Brotherhood of Cognizance, who oversaw their marriage ceremony in the presence of the couple's droids, C-3PO and R2-D2, at the Varykino estate on Naboo. Aferward, "Set" instructed Agolerga not to speak of the ceremony, ensuring the only record of the short procession would be a scroll in his Brotherhood's archives.[1] When the holyman eventually learned of the couple's true identities, he informed Amidala's niece, Pooja Naberrie, of the union.[2]

Behind the scenes

"I remembered a story from 'Lord of the Rings' called 'The Tale of Beren and Lúthien' and transported this to the SW Galaxy. […] What this legend is about remain[s] untold. Were they happy? Did a tragedy occur? We might never know."
―Tim Veekhoven[3]

Veré was created by Tim Veekhoven, writing as "Sompeetalay," for the character Maxiron Agolerga's Databank entry via the What's The Story? Hyperspace feature on StarWars.com.[1] The entry was written in February 2007 and published in early 2008. The eternal lovers' motif was borrowed from author J. R. R. Tolkien's tale "Of Beren and Lúthien,"[3] which details the romance between a mortal man named Beren and an Elf-maiden named Lúthien.[4] Veekhoven stated that the name "Veré" was a common Naboo name and that Maxiron Agolerga was happy to officiate the wedding without caring that the couple used aliases.[3]
