Vashan was a language used by the Vashans, a sentient species native to the planet Vasha[1] of the Outer Rim Territories.[2] It had a spoken form and a written form, and, in general, the Vashans knew both.[1] One specific member of the species who knew both spoken and written Vashan was the swordsman Poina Tuc-shol. Saqc'or, a Svivreni miner and metallurgist on the planet Thonner, and Groex Gal, an Ebranite scout, mountaineer, and tour guide on the moon Qina, both could also speak—but not write—Vashan.[3]
Behind the scenes
Vashan was introduced in the ninth issue of the Star Wars Gamer magazine[1] on February 22, 2002.[4] Within the magazine, the language was mentioned in the source article "Endor and the Moddell Sector" as well as the roleplaying adventure "Race for the Tessent," both being written for use with Wizards of the Coast's Star Wars Roleplaying Game.[1][3] In one instance in the latter source, the name of the language is misspelled as "Vashon."[3]
