Userpage Editing Problems

First of all, many thanks for your welcome to Wookieepedia! I was pleasantly surprised. I hope to be of help on this great wiki (:

I had one question: Currently, I can't edit anything on my userpage! This is probably because of some stupid error I made, but it's pretty irritating because I'd like to work on it. As you can see from it's source, the output's different from the source (the Gray userbox should now be a Black one). I would appreciate any help you could give me (: Darth Paradox 21:05, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Hello!

Hi and thanks for the welcome, much friendlier here than on Wikipedia! Just a couple of comments regarding what's on your user page, firstly I agree totally about the whole Star Dreadnought business, where the heck did that come from? Execpt on here I've never seen any evidence to suggest anything other than the fact that Executor and her sister ships are Super-class Star Destroyers. If there's a vote on it at all let me know, I'll definitely pitch in with you. My second question refers to retconning of pre NJO stuff. I've heard a few mentions of it on various pages but I can't say I've ever spotted any evidence of it. I'm not disputing that there is but if you could point some out to me it would help clear my fog-addled brain. Thanks again. Gazza innit 20:05 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Memory Alpha

You posted the standard "Welcome" on my talk page today. Much thanks. Oddly, when I logged into Memory Alpha, it notified me that I had a new message on my talk page from you over at this wiki. Are the two wikis connected? I've never had one wiki tell me about a discussion on another wiki before. Kind of cool, but I was just wondering why and how that worked. cap97 20:12, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

  • I get messages that I have a news when I'm at other Wikias. I think it's a standard message system. -- SFH 21:19, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
    • I never realized that there was a wiki hub via Wikia. Very interesting. Apparently if you join one, you join them all, which is probably how and why the cross-messaging thing worked. Very cool. There's even a Muppet Wiki!!! That's fantastic. Er...I'll shut up now. cap97 23:28, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

70.71.144.106 says hi

This is a protest at the rude treatment I recieved at Wookieepedia. I have never insulted anyone on this site, I haven't even said the Exile could not be female. All I did was ask that the Exiles gender not be clearly defined as female until there is more information confirming this, so to stop people from screaming that it's one way or another. For this the talk page I was on was "protected" and I was insulted by those who hate any questions. I hope this is not a usual occurance on this site or I will not be coming back. Canonicity vs Speculation

I was wondering which of the admins to bring this to and saw your quote on canon on your userpage, so I figured I'll mention it to you: How important is speculation when writing these articles, especially in terms of the ambiguity of some canon sources -particularly in the case of some of the games? Is there a specific default we go with regarding assumptions of character gender, motive, behaviour, etc. or is it better if we remain amiguous? I only ask because there is an interesting debate going on over at the Tyber Zann Talkpage (under the heading "change in text") relating as to his motive for stealing the Eclipse-class Star Dreadnaught, and it got me thinking.Tocneppil 07:43, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

  • Try to keep speculation to a minimum in the main text, but you can mention something in the BTS section. -- SFH 14:17, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
    • Ah. And regarding speculation about the science behind how vornskrs hunt ysalamiri (which I would have mentioned in my previous posting had I not been too preoccupied to recall the vornskr/ysalamir information), which is over on the Talk:ysalamir page (under 'how do vornskrs hunt ysalamiri'), could that be put up on a 'bts' section?Tocneppil 17:13, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
  • I personally wouldn't mind if it was put up, but you might want to engate in futher discussion. -- SFH 18:21, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
    • I only mentioned it because Will seemed interested. As I said to him on the talkpage, I am more than happy with where it is. But you're raising an interesting point. Thank you for your input.Tocneppil 18:38, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Minor Question

Hey, I just had a minor question for you; how do you make large text on pages, if it is at all possible. The text I wish to make needs to be larger then regular text to gain people's attention, is there a way to do this? Thanks ~ The Haunted Angel 22:46, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

  • I'm not sure how that would be done. Sorry. -- SFH 22:48, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Rant

I've asked Imp this question, but since he's not here at the moment, I thought I'd ask you. Is it OK for me to have something as heavily opinionated as the Rant i've just recently put up on my user page? Or is that a violation of something or other? .... 05:25, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

  • Whoa. And I thought I had issues with Legacy. But in any case, userpages are just that: userpages. I go into a bit of a holier than thou rant about the NJO retconning everything to serve them on my page. Hell, Culator has a grand unified theory that revolves around Jacen Solo. I think we can allow you this...just don't put it on any of the talk pages. -- SFH 05:32, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

I have a contribution for the Jedi Exile page

Some people have been asking why the Jedi Exile page mentions the Visas romance option with the male Exile in the Behind the Scenes section, but not Brianna. I've actually been holding onto that for a bit, but the page was locked before I could add it. Could you temporarily "lower the shields" for me, or would you rather I post it somewhere for you to see it first? Master Kavar 06:58, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

  • I'm just going to unlock the page for registered users in general. I think it has been long enough. -- SFH 15:11, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
    • Thank you for unlocking the page. The summary needed some serious expansion and I think it looks better now. Atarumaster88 20px (Audience Chamber) 17:58, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
  • No problem. Things have calmed down now, so it's okay to unlock to registered users. Still locked to anons and from moves, though. -- SFH 19:34, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Text Problem

SFH, I have a problem, ever since a couple of days ago, the messages people have left me have been in small text, can you help me get the small text back to normal, and make sure further messages are normal sized as well? User:Brain40 10:15, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

  • I wouldn't know how to do that. -- SFH 15:11, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
    • Oh well, okay then. But do you know someone who does? User:Brain40 10:38, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
  • No idea what so ever. -- SFH 15:46, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
    • I took care of it, SFH. Someone had a broken sig with a instead of a and that changed the rest of the text. Atarumaster88 20px (Audience Chamber) 07:02, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

Darth Nexes

Hello SFH, I am glad to be here.

Saxton Fanon

I agree with you on the whole "Star Dreadnought" thing. I am extremely familiar with canonical sources, and had never seen the term used until I looked at Saxton's Technical Commentaries, which are interesting, but certainly not within the canon. It, in fact, is pure and utter fanon, and I really do believe we should make the page linked to the term either a fanon page or redirect it to a proper page on Super Star Destroyers. It really is a big, ugly stain on what is otherwise a beautiful Wikia dedicated to the utmost accuracy. Furthermore, in ROTJ, Ackbar himself refers to Executor as a SSD, and he's not exactly a fighter jock.Graestan 16:19, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

  • AOTC:ICS introduced "Star Dreadnought," ITW:OT applied it to Executor, and Starship Battles preview 1 explicitly confirmed the phrase "Executor-class Star Dreadnought." So deal with it. Calling it "pure and utter fanon" is more than a little disingenuous. -- Darth Culator (Talk)(TINC) 20:27, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Oh, let us [Redacted by administration], my Dark Lord of Accountants. We're not doing it on a regular talk page. I know it's canon, but that doesn't mean we have to like, do we? Also, still waiting on the novel that calls it Star Dreadnought. -- SFH 20:30, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
    • No, you don't have to like it. I don't care who likes it. But your own user page says, repeatedly, that you can't pick and choose what parts of the EU to accept. And Graestan, who has clearly read the Star Dreadnought page, knows it's not "pure and utter fanon." -- Darth Culator (Talk)(TINC) 20:40, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
      • I guess it was fanon until it got published. Of course, now it's canon. —Silly Dan (talk) 23:40, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
        • I never said I had a problem with the classification Star Dreadnought (who spells it that way, anyways?) for Saxton's self-important mention of a Mandator-class Star Dreadnought in the Incredible Cross Sections book. The pure, utter fanon part is the label having been applied to Executor and her sister ships. Nowhere in actual Star Wars canon is the term Star Dreadnought (which, I will point out, appears only once in Star Wars canonical sources) applied to Executor. We all heard Admiral Ackbar refer to the ship as a Super Star Destroyer, and the admiral is in no way a slang-toting fighter jock. Furthermore, in novel after novel (ever sat down with any?), Star Wars authors use the term Super Star Detroyer, and not in ways that would indicate that it is slang (e.g. if it were in dialogue). It is clear that the only real canonical appearance of the term Star Dreadnought is the class name of a ship only mentioned in a book written by Saxton.Graestan 06:43, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
          • That was the case up until the publication of ITW:OT and the Wizards article linked above, both of which use the term "Executor-class Star Dreadnought". We can't exactly pretend that the term "Super Star Destroyer" isn't used in-universe by characters who know what they're talking about, but the alternate term is as canonical as any other bit of EU terminology. —Silly Dan (talk) 13:43, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
          • I have pointed out three uses of the phrase (four if you count the repetition of its use on page 171 of Star Wars: Complete Locations), two (or three) of which apply it directly to Executor. The latest one uses the phrase "Executor-class Star Dreadnought," and was not written by Curtis Saxton, nor was he listed as a consultant. It's unfortunate that you don't like the term, but you can't discount it without ignoring multiple valid EU sources. You cannot point out that it "appears only once" without being ignorant or lying. -- Darth Culator (Talk)(TINC) 13:51, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
            • Well, I guess I'm just a liar. What are you guys, ten years old? I guess Star Wars fans can't debate like they always have on your Supershadowesque website. At any rate, I'm done. I'll go back to looking at this site without trying too hard to participate. Thanks, SFH, by the way, for welcoming me. I'll always side with you on the Saxton fanon. GL should have checked that guy out before handing the reins to him for even one book.Graestan 23:58, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Hey. I appreciate the Saxon comments (I was starting to get worried that McEwok and I were the only ones) but there is no reason to compare us to Supershadow. That just hurts. -- SFH 00:05, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
    • Hey, not you, SFH, you're my main man on this one. I mean the ones who think their version of the EU canon is the only one. Real classy of Culator to call me a liar. Isn't he an admin? At any rate, I'm done, we've all made our points. And you all know I like Wookieepedia, I just meant that the "my way is the only way and even movie dialogue won't prove me wrong" is very Mickey Suttle of them. Do you guys think Lucas even looks at little things like that before he signs off on a book? Sorry, fellas, all of you. We all know how everyone feels now.Graestan 00:18, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
      • Hey, I don't think the Star Dreadnaught classification was necessary either. (Of all SWTC-inspired additions to the EU and fandom I dislike, though, it's probably the one I can complain about the least.) But it's canonical now, so we have to use it. —Silly Dan (talk) 04:53, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Proposal: Deny recognition

I have started a admin's noticeboard thread about changing some administrative details about blocked user's pages here. If I make so bold

If you were to look at my meager list of contributions, that alone will tell you how much of a granite slug I am to all of this, but I have noticed on the Tolkien wiki([1]), that there is a little spot on the bottom of the main page showing how many people, registered or otherwise, are currently viewing the site. I have not the skill or knowledge so I am asking you, or anyone else reading this, if this would be at all possible. Because I feel, in my humble opinion, it would be a neat little addition. --Quidon88 06:39, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

  • If you go to this users page, you'll see a mass of templates. Is this ok? I ask because under "articles to be expanded' category, this page is listed. I assume it's under the other categories that have the templates he used. I'm not trying to intrude on this user or be a jerk, just curious about this. Thanks. I seriously laughed out loud when I read your note about Ackbar and his quote. Ya, it entertained me.

But I have a couple of questions for you (as an admin i'm hoping you can help), all depending on the answer to the first.

Have you played Knights of the Old Republic?

Are they not working for you? I've been subst'ing {{CRP}}, a template I just made: maybe it's formatted badly? Or is it a cache issue? —Silly Dan (talk) 04:40, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

  • It just shows #REDIRECT[[Wookieepedia:Constantly recreated pages]]. I just got on, so I don't think that it is a previous load problem. I think the problem is that there is no space between Redirect and the article link. -- SFH 04:42, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

      • Wait, I think the problem comes from an initial blank line the template inserts. I don't know if you know how to fix that, do you? —Silly Dan (talk) 05:01, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
