WOTM for December

Hey, MJ. I see you're online. Could we get a WOTM update for December? Thanks. Menkooroo (talk) 03:52, December 2, 2013 (UTC)

Sure. Give me a few minutes. —MJ— Council Chambers 04:00, December 2, 2013 (UTC)
Done. —MJ— Jedi Council Chambers 04:04, December 2, 2013 (UTC)

Asking about archives

Hi Master Jonathan, I'm sure you remember me:), just a quick question - the archive I created for my Talk page, can I move conversations into it, or do they archive themselves after a period of time?--Redstarbird MadMarek (Force Box) - "We speak, we learn, thats what we're for" 15:25, December 2, 2013 (UTC)

You need to archive manually. Most users wait until their talk page reaches a arbitrary length (I use about ~20 sections as a guide, most others let it get far longer), then cut and paste the entire page (minus any header) into a new archive. Others archive at fixed intervals, such as every six months or every year. Use whatever method works best for you. —MJ— War Room 17:07, December 2, 2013 (UTC)

Hotlinked images

Hello! I didn't mean to violate any rules on hotlinking (even if they were not made clear at the time). I wasn't allowed to upload an image, do I presently have any options for images? Thank you--Darth Exsanguination (talk) 22:48, December 2, 2013 (UTC)

If you meaning your own images, no, you don't. In addition to needing to meet the requirements (4-day-old account, 50 total edits, and a confirmed email address) to gain technical access to the upload function in the first place, user images (defined as any image not used anywhere except your user page) are a privilege on this wiki for which you must meet the same requirements needed to vote on all site processes, which means 50 edits to the main (article) namespace and at least a 2:1 ratio of edits to the main and Wookieepedia: namespaces to edits to the User:, User talk:, and Forum: namespaces. Until then, the only images you may use on your user page are those already uploaded to and in use elsewhere on Wookieepedia. —MJ— Holocomm 01:41, December 3, 2013 (UTC)

Klaatu

Hi Master Jonathan, I just like to ask you a question. Its the Klaatu page. Is he male by any chance? I just need to be sure.--63.92.231.217 17:47, December 7, 2013 (UTC)

It appears that his/her gender has not been specified, but I only have the information in the article to go off of as I am not familiar with the subject. You could try asking in the Knowledge Bank forum for a more definitive answer. —MJ— Council Chambers 04:52, December 8, 2013 (UTC)

Somebody that doesn't get it

--Gdude00 (talk) 06:27, December 9, 2013 (UTC) Oh Shit.......... Yeah, about that, I kinda thought your message was part of the welcome to wookieepedia, so I kinda didn't see your warning(damn, who knew that spelling wookiepeedia wrong causes the system to hate you)

Gemmer Sojan in "SW 60: Bria's Story"

Hello Master Jonathan. Since you appear to own a copy of Star Wars 60, I'd like to ask you something. I'l currently working on Gemmer Sojan's article, and I noticed something odd: while only four TIE Fighters flew in the Skirmish on Spindrift, the article for SW 60 has five Rogue Squadron members flying during that battle: Luke Skywalker, Shira Brie, Hanc Thorben, Gemmer Sojan and Wald. Could you tell me where the error lies? (I do own a copy of SW 60 myself, but can't check it since I'm currently not home.) Regards. --LelalMekha (talk) 14:15, December 11, 2013 (UTC)

My copy is black and white, so it's nearly impossible to identify characters that I'm not familiar with based on their faces, but there are four TIEs that participate in the actual battle plus a troop transport that lands when the Imps surrender, thereby necessitating five pilots in total. Four of those pilots are identified at Spindrift: Luke, Shira, Gemmer, and Thorben. Using dialogue only, without the ability to identify faces, Gemmer and Luke are the only ones explicitly confirmed to be in a TIE, as Gemmer is ordered to call the transport down and Luke is identified as the leader of the raid. Shira and Thorben are unconfirmed as to whether they were in TIEs or the transport (but could very well be easily confirmed with a color copy). The fifth pilot at Spindrift is unidentified within the story. Wald does not show up in the story until Shalyvane. —MJ— War Room 21:14, December 11, 2013 (UTC)

Project CWA

Do you think there could be a project on Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures (video game) Please reply. 75.34.194.159 23:56, December 11, 2013 (UTC)

If you mean a WookieeProject covering subjects related to the game, probably not. Such a project would be unnecessarily narrow in scope, and the game is already covered by WP:VG anyway. If you mean a concerted effort to clean up that article, the Improvement Drive which handled that sort of thing is long dead, but you're welcome to be bold and dive in yourself, and you might find a few people willing to help if you ask nicely in the Senate Hall forum (no guarantees, though). —MJ— Comlink 00:12, December 12, 2013 (UTC)
Can a few people join the game and I'll create the squad this weekend. My avatar name is Myles Walkers. You can friend me on the game and I'll create a senate hall thread. 75.34.194.159 00:18, December 12, 2013 (UTC)
Wookieepedia is not the place to organize or advertise a gaming group. Please take such activities to an external site. —MJ— Council Chambers 01:25, December 12, 2013 (UTC)
I meant to improve articles based on the game. 75.34.194.159 05:11, December 12, 2013 (UTC)
Then just improve the articles. A formal gaming group, or "squad" as you call it, is not necessary to simply improve articles, and Wookieepedia is not the place to organize a "squad". —MJ— Training Room 22:37, December 12, 2013 (UTC)

Topic template

Hey, MJ. I think you're the right person to ask about this. I'm setting up the next Barn Burner in my sandbox, and I've run into a Featured Topic template that is maxed out. Is there something that can be done about that? See here for what I'm talking about, down under "Comprehensive articles promoted (prior to this Barn-Burner)". Thanks for any help! ~SavageBOB sig 18:53, December 16, 2013 (UTC)

I see you have 87 articles listed. While in theory I could expand the template to handle that many, in practice every three additional articles that it can handle adds another level of nesting, and there are technical limitations on how many nested templates and parser functions you can have, and we're already at 23 levels as the template sits right now. On Wikipedia, the limit is 40 levels of nesting, but Wikia has typically used smaller limits than Wikipedia on other stuff and I don't know what Wikia's limit is. I will give expanding it a shot, but I cannot guarantee that it will work. If it doesn't, then we will need to either have the Scribunto extension installed, or just say "fuck you" to everyone still using versions of Internet Explorer prior to 10. The latter isn't a realistic option because some people do not have a choice in what browser they use as many employers force old versions of IE on their employees, so Scribunto would be the preferred option if simple expansion doesn't work. —MJ— Jedi Council Chambers 02:15, December 17, 2013 (UTC)
OK, do whatever you think is best for the site. This is just for a Barn Burner, and I can always just list two templates one after the other. Not the prettiest option, but it'll do. In other words, if expanding this thing is really difficult or taxing on the site in some way, furgeddabouddit… ~SavageBOB sig 22:02, December 17, 2013 (UTC)
So guess what? I started to expand the template and then had an "aha" moment. 28 kilobytes of fat reduction later, the template can now handle 149 articles when a category link is provided and is no longer in danger of running into technical limits. :D So just add a category link using the "fullcategory" parameter and you should be good. I may look into simplifying the half of the template that is used when no category link is given later, but for now, a category link is recommended (and necessary if you want to display more than 48 articles). —MJ— Jedi Council Chambers 03:11, December 18, 2013 (UTC)
Awesome! I'll give it a go! :) ~SavageBOB sig 19:30, December 18, 2013 (UTC)

Nav end

MJ, as a heads up, whatever you've done to the nav end template has made it so that the [edit] button on the templates doesn't link to the template itself but to Template:whateverpageyouron. Cade GalacticRepublicEmblem-Traced-TORkit Calrayn 02:58, December 17, 2013 (UTC)

What a stupid and basic mistake. :P It's somewhat easily fixable but will require running through all of the templates that I've already updated one more time. Thanks for the heads up. —MJ— Jedi Council Chambers 03:01, December 17, 2013 (UTC)

Luke's backpack redirect

Hello, I noticed your recent deletion of the Luke's backpack redirect and would like to note that typing Luke's backpack into the search box does not redirect to Luke's Backpack. After a few tests, it seems to me that the first character in an article name is not case sensitive for searches, while all subsequent characters are. Therefore, I think that the redirect should be recreated. Thank you for your time.--Exiled Jedi Oldrepublic crest (Greetings) 22:53, December 29, 2013 (UTC)

Fixed by removing a gadget. See, a while back, Wikia made a baffling change to search functionality, forcing all searches to go to the search page instead of going directly to the article when there was an exact match. So somebody here wrote a gadget that, when a search was entered into the Monobook search box, canceled the search and redirected you to the exact title that had been typed in. You apparently had that enabled. The problem is that Wikia restored the proper default behavior quite some time ago, and nobody ever bothered to get rid of the gadget, which is actually less useful than the core functionality because core functionality is to be case-insensitive, while the gadget, due to its limitations, was case-sensitive. So after a few tests to confirm this, I have removed the gadget from the list in Special:Preferences, which should automatically disable it for all users so that all users experience the proper behavior of the search function, and thus the deleted redirect is now truly redundant (although you might need to bypass your browser cache to see the change in behavior). —MJ— Jedi Council Chambers 06:19, December 30, 2013 (UTC)
It works properly now. Thank you.--Exiled Jedi Oldrepublic crest (Greetings) 06:21, December 30, 2013 (UTC)
P.S. You should also remove the addOnloadHook(fixGoButton); line from your JS file. Since that function no longer exists, it's very likely throwing errors in your error console every time you load a page. —MJ— War Room 06:25, December 30, 2013 (UTC)
Whoops, I see you were doing that as I was typing this. :P —MJ— Comlink 06:26, December 30, 2013 (UTC)

2013 TC archive

Hey, Jonathan. Putting in a bot request with you to recategorize everything in "Category:Trash compactor archive" to "Category:Trash compactor archive 2013". Thanks. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 21:34, December 31, 2013 (UTC)

Done. —MJ— Comlink 21:59, December 31, 2013 (UTC)
Cheers, in the parlance of our times. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 22:02, December 31, 2013 (UTC)

Another bot request

Since {{Droids episodes}} has evolved into a full multimedia navigation template for the Droids series as opposed to strictly a listing of the episodes, I think it would be more appropriate to move that to "Template:Droids" and move the current {{Droids}} to "Template:DroidsCite". Can you run a script that updates all the many articles using the current Template:Droids to Template:DroidCite? Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 05:32, January 7, 2014 (UTC)

Sure, I can do that, though not immediately as it will need a little bit setup work before I can turn the bot loose and I'm busy right now. Ping me if it's not done by the end of the week. —MJ— Holocomm 20:55, January 7, 2014 (UTC)
Ok, pinging you. :P Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 18:30, January 11, 2014 (UTC)
Bah, been busy this week. I'll get this done today or tomorrow. I need to write an RPG post or two this weekend, and I can set the bot up to run in the background while I'm writing. —MJ— Council Chambers 19:50, January 11, 2014 (UTC)
The bot portion of this (changing {{Droids}} to {{DroidsCite}}) is now in progress. Once all ~600 transclusions are updated, I can then complete the other change by hand since {{Droids episodes}} only has 20 uses. —MJ— Holocomm 22:56, January 11, 2014 (UTC)
All done. —MJ— Comlink 07:34, January 12, 2014 (UTC)
Outstanding. Thank you. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 07:35, January 12, 2014 (UTC)

Fanon deletion

Its not very nice to do that, it is a thing that I done and its my first go at it and ITS NOT a fanboy thing its a ctually a character description in a comic and I'll have you know I know friends at wikia HQ Unsigned comment by Conman113 (talk • contribs)

We don't care who you know. And if it smells like fanon, I delete it as fanon. In this case, it still smells like bad fanon, but per your talk page, it appears to be official anyway (they must have pulled this out of their collective asses at Lucasfilm), and the article already exists, so there's no need to recreate it. —MJ— Holocomm 21:12, January 8, 2014 (UTC)

Default

Hi Master Jonathan. I like to ask you a question. Do you know anything about a default by any chance?--63.92.231.217 18:07, January 11, 2014 (UTC)

I don't know what you mean by "a default". Could you explain? —MJ— Jedi Council Chambers 18:26, January 11, 2014 (UTC)

Desert Cries

Hi Master Jonathan, I just like to say congratulations on becoming a "Wikia Star". There's something I like to ask you. Its about Desert Cries. I looked at the timeline and it said 31 BBY. However, a few pages, such as Alkin Saad, Tantron Dow, and Misha Quor-Din who appeared in Desert Cries had the year 32 BBY. Do you know the timeline by any chance?--63.92.231.217 19:04, January 16, 2014 (UTC)

I'm unfamiliar with that adventure. I recommend asking Jinzler, who is our Living Force campaign expert. :) —MJ— Comlink 20:27, January 16, 2014 (UTC)

A thanks

Hey Jonathan. Just wanted to thank you for the information. That clears some things up, and will definitely help in the future. See you around! LIGHTNING12345678910 (talk) 14:56, January 18, 2014 (UTC)

References

Hi Master Jonathan, I like to ask you. Do you know anything on how to add references in a page?--63.92.231.217 22:30, January 19, 2014 (UTC)

Please see the sourcing policy. —MJ— Council Chambers 02:39, January 20, 2014 (UTC)

Clone Wars Gambit: Siege

Hi Master Jonathan! There's something I like to ask you about the timeline in Clone Wars Gambit: Siege. The thing is Queen Jamilla ended her reign as queen in 22 BBY and Neeyutnee was elected that year due to the The Essential Reader's Companion. Neeyutnee succeeded Jamilia by the time of the episode "Blue Shadow Virus," whose events were placed in 21 BBY by The Official Episode Guide: Season 1 (October 2009). Is the timeline in the Clone Wars Gambit: Siege actually 22 BBY? I just want to be 100% sure.--63.92.231.217 20:17, January 22, 2014 (UTC)

The Gambit duology takes place in 21 BBY, per page 106 of The Essential Reader's Companion. The timeline of events in 21 BBY is therefore 1) Gambit, 2) Neeyutnee takes over, 3) "Blue Shadow Virus". —MJ— War Room 20:25, January 22, 2014 (UTC)

Oh ok, thanks, but I'm just as confused as ever.--63.92.231.217 20:27, January 22, 2014 (UTC)

Ackbar

As I said on Cade's page if you do the math he would be born in the year of 44 BBY. Unsigned comment by Wetro (talk • contribs) 04:19, January 25, 2014 (UTC)

Then you must provide a reference detailing how that number is arrived at and specifying the source(s) from which all relevant information comes. —MJ— Jedi Council Chambers 04:27, January 25, 2014 (UTC)
