- I agree with a lot of what you've said, although I don't think that we've reached the point where the extremely nitty gritty details need to be dug up. What we do need is more encyclopedic style articles, which take smaller bit articles and combine them into more useful pieces of information. There is an irrational consideration among many contributors that in order to maximize the usefulness of Wookieepedia, we must maximize the number of articles. Eventually, Lando's cape will have an article. While some instances are useful, like having Darth Vader and Darth Vader's armor, there are many articles here that can be combined and others that can be written. I think Thrawn campaign is the start of a good example. — SparqMan Talk 18:28, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
- Hmmm... you've given me some ideas for a couple projects. Let me poke around the wiki a bit, see if I can't find a bunch of stubs that could happily be merged into one big article. Clone Advisor naturally springs to mind. :D Maclimes Zero (talk) 10px 18:33, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
- A good example is Aerial clone trooper captain. We have an article about Clone trooper captains (which is also something that should be folded into an article about Clone army organization - in the same way that Wikipedia doesn't need articles about Navy SEAL Lieutenants, but rather articles about the Navy, SEALs and lieutenants). So why not fold it into Clone jet trooper? The answer you'll get from people like Jack Nebulax is that there is a picture of Aerial clone trooper captains, we know information about them, their name is canon and so we need an article about them. This is where we get the infocalypse of tiny articles that merely repeat canon sources. If Wookieepedia is just going to be a repetitious summary, then we'll achieve our mission in short order. But if we're looking to think to write smart analyses and combine the information we have into something larger, we've got a lot of work to do. — SparqMan Talk 19:09, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
- That's why this "clone advisor" thing is giving me trouble. I can certainly understand the need for the article's title to exist. If I am looking for information about a clone advisor, I should be able to type that in and get straight to the page, even if it simply redirects to an article titled "Clone Army Organization", with a blurb about them. In other words, the Advisor article should not be deleted, but rather turned into a redirect to a large, encyclopedic article about clone forces in general.
