Verify

Thank you for contributing to Wookieepedia! Please note that at least one of your recent additions added unverified information to a mainspace article. Additions to Wookieepedia's articles must be verifiable by a reliable source per our sourcing policy, and unverified information may be reverted or deleted. Continuing to add unverified information may lead to you being blocked from editing by an administrator. Thank you. Tommy-Macaroni 13:14, May 16, 2020 (UTC)

Sourcing

Hi, per the message above, please make sure to add a reliable source per our sourcing policy when adding content to articles. Adding unverified information often means it'll be reverted or deleted, and may lead to you being blocked if done repeatedly. Thanks! spookywillowwtalk 00:26, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

Edits

Hey there! Just to let you know that your edits are being reverted because they are currently lacking a source to verfiy where the information you added comes from, if you look at Wookieepedia:Sourcing you'll see that you need to provide a source. If you're not able to add the references in yourself then you're welcome to let me know what source the information comes from and I can add them in. Thanks! Lewisr (talk) 00:45, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi, I'm not sure how this whole talk page thing works so bare with me, but anyhow thanks for reaching out to me.

I understand now that I need to add sources to my contributions, but how do I know where to find the sources for my edits?

Let's take the "Laser" page for example, it currently has false information about how a laser is created, and it also refers laser as "focused light" instead of "coherent light" which would describe it more accurately. The current information is clearly wrong, so I doubt there r any sources to back that up either.

What I'm trying to say is, even if something is not necessarily explained or mentioned in-universe context, can't we still use real world knowledge and facts to fill in the gaps as some of these things r very likely to work exactly as they do in real life. Plus there's really no proof of that the unsourced stuff is wrong, it just hasn't been confirmed or mentioned in-universe.

Hi; sources for edits can be found from any licensed Star Wars media—guidebooks, books, movies, TV shows, or StarWars.com articles, etc. such as much of the stuff listed here. If something isn't explained in-universe, however, we don't use real-world knowledge to fill in these gaps. Often, things work differently in Star Wars, and our goal as an encyclopedia is to make a resource documenting how things work in-universe. Ultimately, all additions do have to have a source that verifies them as true to be added to pages—if it hasn't been confirmed or mentioned in-universe, then it isn't attributable. Hope this helps, spookywillowwtalk 01:28, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi, I'm still confused as to why the current versions of the pages I edited (like "Gold" and "Laser") are ok, even though they don't have required references either, so why let that slide then?

And even if they were referenced, how are you mods, me, or anyone supposed to verify that they're true, if I don't own/have access to said piece of media?

Let's take the "Laser" page for example. While we know laser has been said many times in Star Wars media, I don't recall anyone ever explaining in-universe what laser is, so why is the wiki page allowed to say lasers are "focused light", when all we know they could just as well be a "stream of red rocks" if we are using your logic.

I know that is an extreme example, but it still fits into the frame of the rules you have set for the wiki pages. So to reiterate: Why does the "Laser page" say laser is light, when it hasn't been confirmed in in-universe media? Shouldn't the page basically just say: "Laser is a thing that was used in laser weapons, but it's nature and properties are unknown." *end of page*

I hope you can help shine light (pun intended) on this situation, as I'm still a bit baffled with all this. Looking forward to hear your response!
