Redlinks

Hey there! You only need to add the redlink template to pages, it will automatically then place it in Category:Articles with an excess of redlinks, Thanks! Lewisr (talk) 03:32, 28 November 2022 (UTC)

Alright, thank you. I just saw that and will be sure to add it on new pages. Also, thank you for fixing the old ones. King321123 (talk) 03:43, 28 November 2022 (UTC)

  • No worries! Just to let you know, the redlink template should only be added to pages with 5 or more redlinks Lewisr (talk) 04:11, 28 November 2022 (UTC)

Right, thanks King321123 (talk) 00:26, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

  • Hi, just wanted to make clear that adding {{Redlink}} to a page automatically adds it to the redlinks category. There is no need to manually add it, as you have been doing. SilverSunbird (talk) 00:54, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

Okay, wait never mind. Y'all thanks for the help just saved me a lot of extra work. King321123 (talk) 01:18, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

I see what you are saying, but the template says you have to have 5 links, but when you click on a category it does not say anything about needing to have more than 1. So, my guess is they don't want you to use the template because it takes up a lot of space for something so little. But, you can use the category for like 1 or more redlinks. But that is just a guess, I don't know for certain. King321123 (talk) 04:02, 1 December 2022 (UTC)

    • No, that's not what the template is used for. It is to indicate that there are a large number of redlinks on a page, not that there are any redlinks on the page at all. It doesn't help anyone to put every single page that has any redlinks into the maintenance category. That's what the 5+ rule exist. I'd say it's also generally advisable to go with what the template says over what the category does. If you'd like to try to change the way the template is used, feel free to start a thread in the Senate Hall, but until then please do not go against the way that the community uses the template.
