Identifying ships by looks

Hey there! I saw your message on Spooky's talk page, and I know she's busy with some things so thought I'd offer to respond to you. Generally there is no limit to how obvious something needs to be, if something is depicted as a YT-2400 then we can simply add it provided that 1) the ship type is named in canon, and 2) if unnamed then if there is anything notable enough for the ship to have an unidentified title. Looking at the example you provided for Star Wars (2015) 61, we currently do list those two models, if any are missing then of course feel free to add them. Hopefully this addresses your questions! Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions/or need any further clarification Lewisr (talk) 21:02, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for the response. I was asking Spookywilloww in particular because she reverted my identifying Eclipse station as a Golan Space Colony 2 based on the rationale that "visual similarity" wasn't enough and that it "has to have a source to be added." I don't see Star Wars (2015) 61 explicitly naming the ship types either, so how are these two cases different (or rather, where is the demarcation between which identification is permissible and which isn't)? Looking at the Eclipse Station and GSC2, they don't really seem to match in the same way that you could identify a YT-2400 by just looking at it. It's pretty much this kind of instance where an additional source would be needed to identify this station as a GCS2, otherwise I'd treat it as a generic station Lewisr (talk) 04:08, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
Granted it's not a perfect match. But I thought it deserves at least a "Behind the scenes" mention or something. Durden235 (talk) 15:27, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
