Vander
I rewatched the ion torpedo scene and if you look closely, there are what look to be 2 Y-wings flying the other direction from the 5 y-wings doing the attack run. Try to see if what I'm talking about--you can't really see it on low quality pirated movie sites, only in theaters—Unsigned comment by 76.24.10.30 (talk • contribs)
- hi! It's nice to see that you share the same passion for the rebel pilots as me. I don't know what it is really. (You should make a wook account, it's not hard and is worth it to keep track of your edits (: )Now this is a bit silly to admit, but I filmed the space battle part of the film so I could review it without seeing the film dozens of times. I watched the following part again, here's what I saw. Vander says "RL, this is GL, we're starting our blah blah' keep it tight blah blah". Then the camera cuts to external view of the 5 y-wings, and in the following shot you see the same group of 5 from a distance. But beyond those 5, you can see another 5 y wings behind the first 5. Then later, we see the 5 y wings again, this time with GL and G9. ("Hit that opening"). The thing is though, after the y wings fly over the ISD tower, I can't see the other y wings that you pointed out in my recording. Maybe if I look closely in a theatre again I will be able to see what you mean. Another thing I'm not sure about as well: somewhere I read recently something about the starfighter corps only having 8 space worthy y wings in gold squadron? I can't remember where, did you see that anywhere either? atlas_er (talk) 12:48, December 31, 2016 (UTC)
- the space worthy Y-wings was in the Rebel Dossier book. It also mentioned that they were working on getting the other two Y-wings back to full flight status, so I think that we can assume that they were ready by the time of the battle. I agree that there are 10 Y-wings total during the bombing run, but am not convinced that the 5 Y-wings doing the ion attack include GL as one of those Y-wings. The other Y-wings that I am referring to are flying away when those 5 Y-wings FIRST SWOOP IN to do the ion attack. When Gold Leader says "hit that opening" is when you can see two Y-wings fly away VERY QUICKLY. Try viewing it again--the y-wings are directly above the 5 y-wings right as GL says "hit that opening" —Unsigned comment by 76.24.10.30 (talk • contribs)
- Ah, the rebel dossier, that must have been it. I keep watching the few seconds either side of "hit that opening" but I can't spot the y wings! Can you remember which way they were going? I watched it many times over again, I just spotted a pair of pink exhausts flying away from camera as they swoop down, is that one of them? It must be clearer in a theatre than on my recording. About Vander, I'm no 100% convinced he flew over the ISD either, maybe he saw something in a flyover and told the other wings to have a crack at it. I think it's more likely than unlikely though. Maybe he's in one of the ships that fly away from camera that you spotted? atlas_er (talk) 02:42, January 1, 2017 (UTC)
- yes, it is the pair of pink exhausts flying away that I am referring to. I should have been a bit more clear--but if you watch it in the theater, those pink exhausts are CLEARLY those of a Y-wing. Alas, I am unsure about Vander being in the ISD assault. Regardless, I think the bombing run on the shield gate is awesome, and Vander is certainly a part of that ("Keep it tight and watch out for those towers!") —Unsigned comment by 76.24.10.30 (talk • contribs)
- ah good. You're right, it's not explicit, but I think it's a fair assumption to make. I was very impressed with the space battle scenes as well, they were very faithfully and respectfully done. The fanservicey parts were done right in my opinion, ie seeing Vander, Dreis, the ghost, chopper, "General syndulla", etc, etc. lovely Star Wars film overall imo. Also, PS: please make an account, it's really easy and worth it for sure. (: atlas_er (talk) 11:39, January 1, 2017 (UTC)
- I will make account--was going to ask your opinion on one last thing. During the Y-wing bombing run on the shield gate, a couple Y-wings are shot down by turrets during the first pass. To me, it looks like the main Y-wing that gets shot down actually releases its bomb as it is getting shot down, causing a massive explosion on one of the guns. Was wondering if you could confirm; initially it looks like the Y-wing itself is crashing into the gun, but the explosion is too big/hardcore for that and if you look closely i think you can see a bomb in the wreckage —Unsigned comment by 76.24.10.30 (talk • contribs)
- ah cool. I watched that part a few times and to be honest it's not clear to me. You might be seeing more than I can, so I can't really give you much advice. I might be seeing things, but it's possible that that ship was destroyed just as it was dropping a bomb, the explosion had a bit of a reddish pinkish tint to it that you see in the regular detonations from the other ships that survive that pass. I am prob lay seeing things though. I can't give you a reliable comment on that sorry! atlas_er (talk) 12:46, January 2, 2017 (UTC)

Hey
Hi, there's as you noticed I removed that little setence since there's no need to add the number of fighters, its enough with the pilots that participated on battle --DarthRuiz30 (talk) 04:14, March 12, 2017 (UTC)
- ok no problem, I thought it would just make it a little more clear to understand.atlas_er (talk) 04:24, March 12, 2017 (UTC)
- also I saw the Gold Squadron talk page, you made a good point, so I'm gonna go ok with that. I think that you're correct to go with a better source, although it came from Story group--DarthRuiz30 (talk) 04:27, March 12, 2017 (UTC)
- thanks, no problems. atlas_er (talk) 06:59, March 12, 2017 (UTC)
