Development
The twelve short stories from the Star Wars Legends continuity featured in Setkání v mlze were selected by editor Milan Pohl for an exclusive Czech-language publication of "the best official short stories and novellas" set before Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope,[1] which begins in 0 BBY.[3] The stories chosen included "Darth Maul: Saboteur", written by James Luceno[1] and originally published in an eBook format in 2001,[4] Michael A. Stackpole's "Elusion Illusion"[1] originally printed in the sixty-sixth issue of Star Wars Insider on March 4, 2003,[5] and two stories by Aaron Allston, "The Pengalan Tradeoff" and "The League of Spies."[1] "The Pengalan Tradeoff" was originally published in the sixty-fifth issue of Insider on January 21, 2003[6] and "The League of Spies" in the seventy-third issue on January 13, 2004.[7]
"Equipment" by Matthew Stover is another included short story,[1] first released as a part of the Star Wars: Short Story Collection in 2003.[8] The anthology also includes three short stories by Timothy Zahn, those being "Hero of Cartao," "Changing Seasons," and the anthology's eponymous "Mist Encounter."[1] "Hero of Cartao" was originally published in three parts, split into the sixty-eighth, sixty-ninth, and seventieth issues of Insider, published on June 3, 2003,[9] in July, 2003,[10] and in early September, 2003 respectively[11] "Changing Seasons" was originally divided into two parts, printed in the seventy-sixth and seventy-seventh issues of Insider on May 18, 2004[12] and August 3, 2004 respectively.[13] "Mist Encounter" originated from the seventh issue of Star Wars Adventure Journal, published on August 1995.[14]
Setkání v mlze further includes the short story "In His Image" by Karen Traviss,[1] first printed in Vader: The Ultimate Guide on July 14, 2005,[15] and "A Two-Edged Sword", also written by Traviss[1] and first published in the eighty-fifth issue of Insider on November 28, 2005.[16] "The Final Exit" by Patricia A. Jackson, first printed in the fourth issue of the Adventure Journal on November 1994,[17] is also included in the anthology, as is the short story "Interlude at Darkknell", written by Zahn and Stackpole[1] and previously printed in Tales from the New Republic in December 1999.[18] The twelve selected short stories were translated into the Czech language, by Pohl, Jana Jirásková, Peter Kadlec, and Marta Kadlecová. A new cover was created for the anthology by artist Jan Patrik Krásný[1] and the anthology was ultimately published on July 15, 2009[2] by Egmont ČR in the form of a 360-page paperback, becoming the first book printing for some of the short stories included.[1]
Continuity
The cover by Krásný depicts the Chiss Mitth'raw'nuruodo wearing a Phase II clone trooper armor, while in "Mist Encounter" itself he wears the armor of Stormtroopers.[1]
