Star Wars: The Force Awakens

  • Rey has similiaries with Jaina Solo from Star Wars Legends. Like Rey, Jaina was a human female expert pilot, mechanic, and a Jedi strong in the Force who was trained as part of Luke Skywalker's new generation of Jedi. While Rey is not related to the Skywalker family by blood as Jaina was, she became an honorary family member who viewed Han Solo as a father figure, Leia Organa as a mother figure, and later took on the Skywalker name.
    • Rey's yellow lightsaber in the sequel trilogy may be inspired by Bastila Shan's in Star Wars Legends. In addition, the relationship between Revan and Bastilla Shan mirrors that of Ben and Rey.
  • Kylo Ren/Ben Solo has similarities with Darth Caedus/Jacen Solo from Star Wars Legends. Like Kylo Ren, Jacen was the son of Han Solo and Leia Organa who trained in the Jedi arts under Luke Skywalker and fell to the dark side of the Force. In addition, both rose to become leaders of New Orders succeeding the Galactic Empire. Kylo Ren became the Supreme Leader of the First Order, while Darth Caedus became the Chief of State of the Galactic Alliance. Also, both killed a member of their family to solidify their place as Darksiders. Kylo Ren killed his father Han Solo, while Darth Caedus killed his aunt Mara Jade.
    • Kylo Ren's mask and apparel in The Force Awakens looks identical to Darth Revan's in Star Wars Legends. In addition, the relationship between Revan and Bastila Shan mirrors that of Ben and Rey.
  • Poe Dameron has similarities with Jagged Fel from Star Wars Legends. Both characters were sons of Galactic Civil War veterans who grew up to become ace starfighter pilots with a history of military service. In addition, both eventually attained a position of leadership. Poe became the leader of the Resistance, while Jagged became the leader of the Fel Empire. Also, both had a morally questionable past. Poe worked as a spicerunner on Kijimi, while Jagged worked as a bounty hunter and an Imperial pilot.
  • Finn has similarities with Kyle Katarn from Star Wars Legends. Both characters were Force-sensitive stormtroopers who defected to rebellions against imperialism. While Finn is not a Jedi like Katarn, his wielding a lightsaber against Kylo Ren is a possible reference to Kyle Katarn.

Both characters were instructors responsible for recruiting, combat training and discipline, both were warriors originally members of a clan that joined factions succeeding the Galactic Empire. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

  • Darth Sidious' revival and story after his death following the Battle of Endor borrows elements from his revival in the comic book series Star Wars: Dark Empire and other stories from Star Wars Legends.
    • The way in which Darth Sidious pulled the strings behind Supreme Leader Snoke may have been a reference as well to how Onimi pulled the strings behind Supreme Overlord Shimraa Jamaane during the Yuuzhan Vong War in Legends.
    • A possible nod to the comic series is multiple stored bodies of Snoke, who is revealed to be an artificial humanoid, similar to how Sidious had many clone bodies of himself to transfer his spirit into and preserve his life so he could rule the galaxy.
    • Sidious planning to transfer his spirit into his grandchild may be a reference to Palpatine's plan to transfer his spirit into Anakin Solo, Darth Vader's grandchild, due to deteriorating clones of himself in Legends.
    • Sidious corrupting a student of Luke Skywalker and posing a threat to his New Jedi Order is similar to when the spirit of Exar Kun turned Kyp Durron to the Dark Side and threatened his New Jedi Order in Legends. Like Sidious, the spirit of Exar Kun had a Sith cult that worshipped him in modern times, the Cult of Exar Kun.
  • The Sith Eternal and the Final Order, two organizations lead by Darth Sidious to reconquer the galaxy are similar to the Dark Empire, a regime which Palpatine intended to use to reconquer the galaxy. Likewise, the Dark Empire shows Sidious no longer hiding his affiliation with the Sith.
    • The role of the Sith Eternal cult in the Final Order mirrors that of the role of the Prophets of the Dark Side cult in the Galactic Empire. Both cults date back generations before the events of the Skywalker Saga, were based on hidden worlds with ancient ties to the Sith, its members wore black robes and operated in secret, and served Darth Sidious as they helped further his dark side goals by manipulating the course of galactic events to ensure the outcome.
    • The Knights of Ren, a group of dark-side users which serve the resurrected Darth Sidious, are similar to the Dark Jedi body called the Dark Side Elite, founded by the reborn Sidious as part of the Dark Empire. Similarly, the Dark Side Elite and the Knights of Ren serve Sidious' new regime and consist of seven members each. Also, the Darksiders that made up these groups were unable to match the power of a Skywalker.
    • Sith Troopers of the Sith Eternal have similarities with Sith Troopers of Darth Krayt's Sith Empire and the Reborn of the Empire Reborn. Both are military forces with ties to the dark side of the Force affiliated with successors to the Galactic Empire. The Sith Troopers were the primary soldiers of the Final Order, while the Reborn were the primary warriors of the Empire Reborn. In addition, both were part of plots to restore the ways of the Sith, the Empire, and the Emperor.
    • The Sith fleet Sidious organized after his revival to further his galactic conquest seems to be inspired by the Katana fleet, a fleet also comprised of a massive amount of Imperial ships stored away in a far off corner of the galaxy and controlled by a single ship.
    • The Xyston-class Star Destroyers of the Sith Eternal fleet, armed with planet-destroying axial superlasers, bear some resemblance to the Legends' Conqueror, an Imperial-class Star Destroyer armed with superlaser purpoted to destroy planets, and has a role similar to the Eclipse-class dreadnoughts in Star Wars Legends.
  • Palpatine is revealed to have had a cloned son, that being Rey's father. In the Legends continuity, Palpatine was the father of Triclops, a mutant slave who was supposedly the result of Palpatine's relationship with Sly Moore.
    • Likewise, in both continuities a grandchild of Sidious becomes a Jedi apprentice or Luke Skywalker. In Star Wars Legends Ken, son of Triclops, became an apprentice to Luke Skywalker, and was long unaware of his lineage. Much like Rey, he was terrified of it when learning the truth, and so deemed himself born of evil and thus unworthy to join the rebels, but was reassured by his Jedi Master, who told him that he could be a force for good.
  • Ochi of Bestoon has similarities with Ennix Devian from Star Wars Legends. Both were humanoid assassins with eye cybernetics that worked directly for Emperor Palpatine. In addition, both were associated with the Galactic Empire and factions that splintered from it after it fell. Also, both of their paths crossed with Sith Lord Darth Vader before his demise and Jedi Master Luke Skywalker following the Battle of Endor.

Members of both squads included a leader (Hunter-Niner), an expert in destruction (Wrecker-Darman), an expert in technology (Tech-Atin), and a sniper (Crosshair-Fi). After the war both squads did not comply with Order 66 and some members decided to desert while others joined the newly established Galactic Empire.
  • Omega has similarities with Venku Skirata, a Force-sensitive Mandalorian from Star Wars Legends. Both were gifted children in the care of clone commando deserters after the rise of the Galactic Empire and were blood related to Jango Fett via cloning.
