Kaiya Adrimetrum was a resistance fighter and Rebel unit commander who became a member of Page's Commandos. She later commanded the New Republic corvette FarStar.

Biography

Early life and resistance fighter

"Kaiya, you'll be a good commander, but you'll be wasted here. If you want the Empire off Siluria, you'll have to fight it off Siluria. You'll do more damage, and the people here will be safer. and you don't have to leave everyone behind. We'll try and get as many people as want to come out of here. If Siluria needs you, it needs you out there, hitting them where in counts."
―Corwin Shelvay to Kaiya Adrimetrum[src]

The Human female Kaiya Adrimetrum was born on Siluria III,[1] a planet located in the Atravis sector of the Outer Rim Territories.[4] Married with at least two daughters, Adrimetrum and her family lived in a mansion called Dovecote, which was located on the limits of Koved City. Sometime during the Galactic Civil War, the Galactic Empire forcibly occupied her homeworld, and her husband was killed by Imperial forces. In response, Adrimetrum organized her friends and family into a resistance cell. She was also approached by Corwin Shelvay, who offered his assistance to her resistance group. Unknown to her, he was a Jedi Knight and a member of the Alliance to Restore the Republic.[5]

With Shelvay's help, Adrimetrum planned and executed an assault on the mansion of Governor Quannith, Siluria III's Imperial ruler. Despite facing two squads of Imperial stormtroopers defending an entrenched position, Adrimetrum's rebels won the battle, reducing the mansion to a fiery ruin and suffering only fourteen casualties, although they could not confirm that Quannith was dead since they did not recover his body. In the aftermath of the attack, Adrimetrum and Shelvay discussed the ramifications of their actions. Shelvay revealed his allegiance to the Rebellion and his Jedi status, and told her that the Rebel Alliance could use good commanders like her and decent troops like the ones in her resistance cell and urged her to leave Siluria III. When Adrimetrum said that she intended to stay and continue the fight on her homeworld, Shelvay informed her that Siluria III meant nothing to the Empire, and if Adrimetrum continued her war on the planet, then Siluria III would suffer even more through orbital bombardment or the execution of civilians to stop the resistance. Convincing her that to free Siluria III she had to fight elsewhere, Shelvay contacted the Rebellion and arranged for Adrimetrum and her rebels to join the Alliance.[5]

After joining the Rebel Alliance, Adrimetrum underwent a basic eight week officer training course, and qualified as a Rebel Unit Commander. She was placed in command of a poorly trained and equipped unit, but quickly gained their trust and loyalty.[1] Over the course of several years, Adrimetrum served with several teams, and tended to develop strong bonds with the troops under her command. When the Rebel Alliance transitioned to the New Republic, Adrimetrum continued to serve with the new galactic government. During this time, Adrimetrum met the Wookiee Lofryyhn. The two served together on several infiltration assignments; although the pair rarely spoke of their past, it was rumored that Lofryyhn had saved Adrimetrum's life on several occasions. Around 8 ABY, Adrimetrum's combat performance earned her a transfer to the elite Page's Commandos, commanded by Lieutenant Judder Page. Just prior to the New Republic's mission to liberate Kal'Shebbol, the capital planet of the Kathol sector, Adrimetrum learned that Lofryyhn was on the planet. Her friend had been captured by the Sabiador Slavers while serving on a blockade runner in the Outer Rim Territories, and had been subsequently sold to the Imperial warlord who ruled the planet, Moff Kentor Sarne. She requested to be assigned to the task force being sent to Kal'Shebbol.[3]

Moff Sarne had broken away from the Empire just after the Battle of Endor, but as he had been content to remain within his own borders, the New Republic had not considered him a threat. However, Sarne made a series of incursions into the neighboring Minos Cluster, claiming victories despite being outnumbered. The New Republic managed to repulse Sarne's advances,[3] but rumor had reached them that the Moff had acquired a new form of exotic technology. Although some dismissed it as idle Outer Rim gossip, the New Republic decided to act against Sarne. However, they could not afford to wage a lengthy campaign against what was essentially a backwater location, so Kal'Shebbol and Sarne had to fall quickly. The Moff had installed a deflector shield to protect the planet's sole continent, as well as numerous defensive weaponry such as turbolasers and ion cannons. Although a concentrated assault would have eventually worn down the planetary defenses, Kal'Shebbol needed to fall quickly. To achieve a swift victory, Page's Commandos were tasked with infiltrating Kal'Shebbol just prior to the arrival of the task force to disable the deflector shield. A small detachment, led by Lieutenant Page—and including Adrimetrum, who had ensured that she was selected for the mission—used a Ghtroc Industries 720 freighter to pose as a merchant vessel. The ship joined the orbital traffic awaiting entry to Kal'Shebbol; when the New Republic task force arrived in the system, all of the freighters were directed to put down on designated landing fields as the shield was raised. Syla Tors, piloting the freighter, initially stuck to the proscribed course before veering off, heading for the Imperial Government Complex which served as Sarne's headquarters. Personnel in the Complex noticed the freighter's deviation, and opened fire with an Atgar 1.4 FD P-Tower; the blast took out the ship's starboard repulsorlifts, sending the freighter towards the ground. Tors managed to crash land the freighter, and sliced through the Complex's perimeter death fence as she skidded along the ground.[6]

Adrimetrum survived the crash unscathed, and the team rendezvoused with Lilla Dade, the unit's pathfinder who had been inserted onto the planet three days earlier in an effort to scout potential access points to the Complex. She had enlisted the aid of a local resident, the Defel Kl'aal, and discovered an entrance into the base; a hole in the roof of an armored tunnel. Although it was unclear how the hole had been cut, Dade had heard rumors that it was the result of an experiment that had gone wrong. The team infiltrated the base, and secured a nexus control room. Sergeant Keleman Ciro, the team's computer expert, sliced into the Complex's databanks and located a private hangar where Sarne was keeping a Carrack-class light cruiser as a personal escape vehicle, and the detention blocks. Page led half the team to the hangar, reasoning that there should be controls for the deflector shield located in it since the Moff would need to lower them to make his escape. He tasked Adrimetrum—accompanied by Urban Combat Specialist Gottu, Dade and Kl'aal—to rescue the prisoners in the detention area.[6]

Leading her squad to the detention cells, Adrimetrum gave the order to begin releasing the captives. Among the detainees freed were Lofryyhn and Jessa Dajus, a former Imperial Intelligence agent who claimed to be a shuttle pilot for the Moff. Dajus, a Force-sensitive individual who was unaware of her talent, sensed danger within the cell blocks when the commandos began shooting out the cell locks to free the prisoners and warned Adrimetrum. The commando ordered her team to stop; a further investigation of the cell locks revealed that at least one of them was rigged with an explosive device to destroy the detention block if tampered with. With no time to check every single cell for booby-traps, Adrimetrum was forced to leave the rest of the prisoners locked up and ordered her team to head to Moff Sarne's escape hangar to support Page. Despite the team's efforts, they could not stop the Moff from escaping the planet aboard the Ambition, aCarrack-class light cruiser that was concealed in the underground hangar.[6]

Sarne's flight from his capital left the New Republic with a dilemma. The Moff had managed to retreat with the majority of his forces and still posed a credible threat to the region. However, the New Republic task force at Kal'Shebbol was needed in the Bozhnee sector, and no ships could be spared to go after Sarne. In a meeting with Lieutenant Page, Jessa Dajus divulged the location of a CR90 corvette that Sarne was heavily modifying for extended field missions. Travelling to the shipyard in the Sorbiss Valley, Page commandeered the vessel and set about outfitting it for a mission to track down and neutralize Sarne. Adrimetrum, along with other members of Page's Commandos, helped with the effort, inspecting the ship. While inspecting the medical bay, Adrimetrum—along with Keleman Ciro—was taken aside by Page and told that he was placing the pair of them in command of the mission with Ciro as Captain and Adrimetrum as his First Officer. Ciro was taken aback by being granted command of the mission, and attempted to convince Page to switch their roles and place Adrimetrum in charge since she had led the resistance on Siluria III. Page, however, denied the request as Ciro had shown a resistance to a piece of the Moff's exotic technology during the invasion of Sarne's headquarters and he believed that would be needed in the coming mission. Reluctantly, the pair accepted their assignment. To crew the corvette, the New Republic was forced to rely on a mixture of its own personnel and volunteer members of Kal'Shebbol's civilian population, supported by starfighters provided by the military.[6]

Commanding the FarStar

Adrimetrum's time as first officer was short. During the Battle of Kolatill, Captain Ciro was captured by Imperial forces from the Kathol Protector. She took command of the FarStar, and commanded the ship during the hunt for Moff Sarne.

Personality and traits

Kaiya Adrimetrum possessed a slim, athletic build, and had jet-black hair, brown eyes and aristocratic features. She usually dressed simply and practically, with a web belt of supplies. Extremely serious, Adrimetrum never told a joke and never got them, either. She instilled a fierce loyalty in the troops that served under her, and was very aware of her responsibilities as a unit commander. Outwardly, Adrimetrum presented a calm façade, but inside she was deeply troubled by carrying the burden of responsibility for the lives under her command. She felt normal and average, but realized that the personnel serving under her could never see that side of her. Despite this, she formed strong bonds with commandos in her unit. While teamwork and efficiency were improved, it also made each death harder for Adrimetrum to bear.[1]
