The 41st Elite Corps, sometimes referred to as the 41st Elite Legion, and known simply as the 41st Elite, was an infantry legion of elite clone troopers serving in the Grand Army of the Republic's 9th Assault Corps, during the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Under the command of Senior Clone Commander CC-1004 "Gree" and Jedi General Luminara Unduli, the legion specialized in long-term peacekeeping operations on alien worlds, quickly becoming hostile terrain specialists, and experts in counter-insurgency and alien recruitment. Sarlacc Battalions A and B, as well as Green Company, were sub-units of the 41st Elite.

Following the rise of the Galactic Empire in 19 BBY, the 41st Elite Corps was redesignated as the 41st Stormtrooper Legion, under the command of Stormtrooper commander "Gett".

Characteristics

Organization

The 41st Elite Corps was a legion of infantry clone troopers that served within the Grand Army of the Republic's 9th Assault Corps. Led by Jedi General Luminara Unduli and Senior Clone Commander CC-1104 nicknamed "Gree,"[3] the legion contained 9,216 clone troopers, and was subdivided into four regiments.[8] Alongside standard clone troopers, the unit also contained AT-RT drivers and clone scout troopers.[3] Green Company[9] and the Sarlacc Battalions, a formation of clone battalions composed of Sarlacc Battalion A and Sarlacc Battalion B, fell under the 41st Elite.[1]

Equipment

In 21 BBY, members of the 41st Elite Corps wore standard Phase I clone trooper armor with dark green markings,[6] lime green markings, or no markings at all.[7] Following the implementation of Phase II clone trooper armor, the 41st Elite Corps maintained a large armory of gray-marked Phase II armor, as well as camouflaged scout armor,[2] specialized for combat in jungle environments.[11] Members of the legion were known to wield the DC-15A blaster rifle, DC-15S blaster carbine,[4] DC-17 hand blaster,[6] Z-6 rotary blaster cannon, and the RPS-6 rocket launcher.[12]

The 41st Elite utilized different vehicles during the war, including All Terrain Recon Transports, HAVw A6 Juggernauts, Infantry Support Platforms, All Terrain Attack Pods, BARC speeders, and LAAT/i gunships.[4]

History

The Clone Wars

Following the eruption of the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems,[13] the 41st Elite Corps served in the Grand Army of the Republic under the command of Jedi General Luminara Unduli and Senior Clone Commander CC-1004, nicknamed "Gree". Specializing in long-term peacekeeping operations, often operating in primitive and grueling conditions to forge alliances with native populations, the members of the 41st Elite quickly became known as specialists in hostile terrain warfare, as well as experts in alien recruitment and counter-insurgency. The unit pioneered the use of the All Terrain Recon Transport and the HAVw A6 Juggernauts, using them for reconnaissance and infantry charges.[2]

Skirmish at Dinlo

"Yes, I know I should be directing the battle from the ship. Yes, I know we could reduce the surface of Dinlo to molten slag from orbit. But we can extract more than a thousand men, and that’s worth doing. I asked for volunteers and I got the whole ship’s crew and every man in Improcco Company, and not from blind obedience. Let me try."
―Jedi General Etain Tur-Mukan's message to General Iri Camas, about saving the 41st Elite's Sarlacc Battalions[1]

367 standard days after the First Battle of Geonosis, the 41st Elite Corps' Sarlacc Battalions "A" and "B," under the command of Commander "Gree" and Jedi General Vaas Ga, were involved in a skirmish against the Separatist Droid Army on the forest planet Dinlo. During the battle, both battalions became pinned down by the droid forces, and needed to be rescued as their only exit was cut off. Jedi General Etain Tur-Mukan, wanting to assist the clone forces at Dinlo, assembled the crew of the Acclamator-class assault ship Fearless, along with the troopers of Improcco Company, to rescue them.[1]

Arriving at the battle in modified Low Altitude Assault Transport/carriers, Etain and the rest of Improcco Company rescued the troopers of the Sarlacc Battalions, bringing them off planet to the Fearless. While flying to the ship, one of the Sarlacc Battalions' troopers, nicknamed "Fi," passed away while being comforted by Etain, after sustaining a fatal injury to his chest.[1]

One day later, following the Fearless' retrieval of clone commando squads Delta and Omega, half of the 41st Elite participated in a chant of Vode An, meaning "Brothers All" in Mando'a, with the members of Improcco Company and the commandos. The 41st Elite Corps' Sarlacc Battalions were then granted short leave on Coruscant the following day, partly as cover for Kal Skirata's black ops missions there, and partly as a morale booster.[1]

Assault on the Tranquility

One unit of the 41st Elite, Green Company, would see action on board the Republic Cruiser Tranquility when the cruiser came under attack from Separatist forces under the command of Asajj Ventress. At that time, the Tranquility carried the Viceroy of the Trade Federation, Nute Gunray, as prisoner on the ship. Ventress had been sent to either rescue Gunray or silence him, and the ensuing battle caused Green Company to lose eighteen men defending the cruiser.[6]

The Second Battle of Geonosis

Later, the 41st Elite Corps saw action in the retaking of the planet Geonosis, after intelligence had revealed that Archduke Poggle the Lesser had built a new droid foundry there.[10]

In 19 BBY, the 41st Elite saw heavy action in the battle of Kashyyyk against the droid invasion force sent to seize the world. There, the clone troopers of the 41st Elite fought alongside Wookiee warriors and a small clique of Jedi to a near standstill against the Confederacy. While most of their men were transferred to Kashyyyk, a detachment of the 41st Elite was sent to assist in the Battle of Utapau.[14]

Order 66

When Palpatine initiated Order 66, Commander Gree and his soldiers promptly turned on Yoda, however Yoda sensed their intent and killed Gree and his fellow clone trooper and managed to escape with the help of Chewbacca and Tarfful.[4]
