An untitled film about Wookiees was planned by George Lucas to be released in 1980. However, it was cancelled and replaced with Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back.

The film was to focus on the natives of the planet Kashyyyk.
Development
During the 1970s, when George Lucas envisioned the whole story of the Star Wars saga with four trilogies and twelve episodes, he conceived a Wookiee-centric film along an untitled film about Droids. The film was supposed to have the Wookiees as the main protagonists after the enormous success of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.[1]
In 1980, Lucas told to the magazine Prevue that while he was writing A New Hope, he pitched the idea to make some, in his words, odd films aside the main saga films, which were going to be two at that time. As Lucas said, the film was going to be a film about Wookiees.[2]
However, at the end, Lucas opted to continue the original trilogy and decided to work on Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back and released it in 1980 instead that the Wookiee-centric film, leading it to its cancellation along the Droids film. However, some concepts of this project were later used in the infamous The Star Wars Holiday Special and the TV show Ewoks.[2]
