"The bounty hunter episode was going to be an Ax Tagrin episode. Like, Ax would have come back. He woulda been a bigger badass and he would have taken over the Colossus."

An episode for the second season of the animated television series Star Wars Resistance was scripted by writing partners Kevin Burke and Chris "Doc" Wyatt but ultimately cut. The episode would have featured the bounty hunter Ax Tagrin taking over the Colossus space station in order to deliver it to the First Order.

Plot summary

"He really came off as, like, a bigger threat in that episode. Ax woulda showed up, gotten on the Colossus while they were flying and really sort of taken over and got very close to delivering them to the First Order."
―Brandon Auman — 20?cb=20250116042720 ▶️ (file info)[1]

The episode would have occurred in 34 ABY[3] during the First Order-Resistance War and involved[1] the Iktotchi[4] bounty hunter Ax Tagrin infiltrating the Colossus[5] refueling station[4] to commandeer it. He would have nearly succeeded in handing the space station to the First Order.[1] The episode would have featured an action sequence involving a hallway and an airlock.[2] The humans[4] Imanuel Doza, the Colossus's captain,[5] and Kazuda Xiono,[2] a Resistance agent,[4] would have also been involved in the episode's story.[5][2]

Development

"It wasn't tied to the central arc and even though it was like, you know a very sort of like, harrowing, very thrilling, super exciting, action-packed episode it just didn't necessarily need to be there in the long run."

The episode was written by writing partners Kevin Burke and Chris "Doc" Wyatt for the animated television series Star Wars Resistance[2] sometime between September 2017 and the summer of 2018.[6] They wrote an action sequence "beat for beat" into the script.[2] Though fully scripted, budgetary reasons from the Walt Disney Company caused both the episode and one other episode,[1] "The Lost Book,"[7] to be cut from Star Wars Resistance Season Two,[1] which aired from October 6, 2019 to January 26, 2020.[8] The episode was chosen to be cut due to it occurring toward the end of the season, where it was deemed important to instead focus on the character Tamara Ryvora's arc with the First Order,[5] and it affecting continuity the least[2] as a standalone story.[1]

Head writer and executive producer of the series Brandon Auman first mentioned the episode in a 2021 interview with the podcast Friends of the Force.[5] During an interview in 2025, Resistance writer Gavin Hignight revealed he had read the episode's script and recalled contributing to the episode during the session where the story was broken out.[9] In another interview in 2025, Burke and Wyatt revealed their authorship of the episode's script.[2]

Auman felt that Doza would have "shined" in the cut episode and that Tagrin would have been more threatening than in his previous appearances in Star Wars Resistance.[5] He described the episode as exciting and action-packed and as one of his favorite scripts. Auman further commented that members of the Xiono family might have been involved in the episode,[1] with Burke later confirming Kazuda Xiono's involvement.[2] Hignight described the episode as "cool" and Tagrin's character in it as a "baddie." He also recalled, though not certain of it, that the[9] Mirialan[4] Synara San had a "really good" fight with Tagrin in the work. Hignight lamented that the episode was cut, wishing that the series included more episodes or even another season.[9] Burke described the theme of the episode as Tagrin on an unstoppable mission against Xiono in the style of the[2] 1984 film[10] The Terminator.[2]
