- "Talk like that will get you killed."
- ―The stormtrooper, to his colleague
During the Galactic Civil War, an individual served as a stormtrooper of the Galactic Empire. In 1 ABY, he and another stormtrooper were stationed on the planet Naboo, specifically at the personal retreat of Galactic Emperor Palpatine. At one point that year, the stormtrooper listened to his colleague expressing his doubts that the Empire would be repairing or replacing the Death Star battle station that the Rebel Alliance had destroyed. When the trooper also noted his belief that Palpatine was hiding important information from his subjects, Inquisitor Loam Redge, who had overheard the conversation, made his presence known and proceeded to berate the soldier. After the Emperor's enforcer Darth Vader entered the room as well, Redge decreed that the two stormtroopers—who he reasoned had too much free time—report for new orders that would result in them being stationed at a more challenging post.
Biography
Listening to speculation
- "It's only been about a year. Equipment that awesome takes time to repair."
- ―The stormtrooper, to his colleague
The stormtrooper was stationed at the personal retreat of Galactic Emperor Palpatine.
By 1 ABY,[2] during the Galactic Civil War between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance, a male individual served as an Imperial stormtrooper. That year, he was stationed on Naboo, a Mid Rim planet that was the homeworld of Galactic Emperor Palpatine. There, at Palpatine's personal retreat, he and another stormtrooper were posted near a small computer terminal in a large antechamber leading to the Emperor's inner sanctum.[1]
At one point, while on duty, the stormtrooper was engaged in a clipped conversation with his colleague while maintaining a pose that was only slightly more military than that of the other soldier. The more casually stanced trooper speculated that, if by that time the Empire had not yet either repaired the Death Star battle station that the Alliance had destroyed a year earlier or begun the construction of a replacement for it, it would not be doing so at all. The stormtrooper who listened to the other man's claims was skeptical, expressing his belief that a single year was too short a timespan to repair such a substantial piece of technology. The trooper also uneasily questioned the unspoken implications of his colleague's speculation.[1]
A conversation overheard
- "Don't bother trying to explain anything to me, soldier. I know exactly what you were trying to explain to your 'friend' here."
- ―Loam Redge, to the stormtrooper's colleague
Inquisitor Loam Redge overheard the stormtroopers' conversation and subsequently had them reassigned to a more challenging post.
The stormtrooper's colleague went on to express his suspicions that Palpatine was withholding important information from his subjects, to which the other trooper replied that he was risking execution by such talk. At that moment, Inquisitor Loam Redge, who had been eavesdropping on the conversation, made his presence known to the two troopers. Caught off-guard, they both suddenly turned toward Redge, after which Redge proceeded to berate the man who had voiced his speculations. Pleased by the soldiers being too frightened to make any further comments, Redge stated that the stormtrooper had nevertheless made a valid point. In what Redge saw as an attempt by the soldiers to seek any avenue to redeem themselves, the berated stormtrooper's colleague then prompted the Inquisitor to clarify his statement, which Redge obliged, claiming that the Empire still had to invest significant effort in order to prevail in the war against the Alliance.[1]
When the Sith Lord Darth Vader,[1] Palpatine's enforcer,[3] then entered the antechamber and demanded that Redge join him for a walk and a conversation, the two stormtroopers made their posture even straighter than it was at the Inquisitor's presence. Before he joined Vader, Redge, reasoning that the troopers had too much free time on their hands, declared that their tour of duty at the retreat was over and that they were to report to their garrison commander for new orders. The Inquisitor intended for them to be transferred to a more challenging post, musing about[1] the barren Hoth system of the Outer Rim Territories[4] as one such potential destination.[1]
Equipment
The stormtrooper donned a set of stormtrooper armor, including a helmet. The transmitter of the man's headgear introduced a measure of static in his vocal utterances and was in need of maintenance.[1]
Behind the scenes
The stormtrooper appeared in Voronica Whitney-Robinson and Haden Blackman's 2003 novel Star Wars Galaxies: The Ruins of Dantooine.[1]
