The title of this article is conjectural.

Although this article is based on official information from the Star Wars Legends continuity, the actual name of this subject is pure conjecture.

"I've heard rumors that the Rebellion is growing, becoming more powerful. If they could take out a weapon as great as the Death Star, there's no telling just how strong they really are. I think the Emperor is hiding that from us. I think he's hiding many things."
―The stormtrooper[1]

An individual served as a Galactic Empire stormtrooper during the Galactic Civil War. In 1 ABY, he and another stormtrooper were stationed at the personal retreat of Galactic Emperor Palpatine on the planet Naboo. At one point that year, the stormtrooper was expressing to his colleague his doubts that the Empire would be repairing or replacing the Death Star battle station that the Rebel Alliance had destroyed. The trooper also relayed rumors that the Alliance was growing more powerful as well as his belief that Palpatine was hiding important information from his subjects.

At that point, Inquisitor Loam Redge, who had overheard the conversation, made his presence known and proceeded to berate the soldier. After the Emperor's enforcer Darth Vader also entered the room, Redge decreed that the two stormtroopers—whom he had enjoyed tormenting and who he reasoned had too much free time—report for new orders that would result in them being stationed at a more challenging post.

Rumors on duty

"I'm telling you that if they haven't repaired or replaced the Death Star by now, they won't. And that should tell you something."
―The stormtrooper, to his colleague[1]

The stormtrooper was stationed at the personal retreat of Galactic Emperor Palpatine.

A male individual served as a stormtrooper of the Galactic Empire[1] by 1 ABY,[2] during the Galactic Civil War between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance. That year, he was stationed at the personal retreat of Galactic Emperor Palpatine on the latter's homeworld, the Mid Rim planet Naboo. He and another stormtrooper were posted near a small computer terminal in a large antechamber leading to the Emperor's inner sanctum.[1]

At one point, while on duty, the stormtrooper was engaged in a clipped conversation with his colleague while casually leaning against the wall. The trooper claimed that, if by that time the Empire had not yet either repaired the Death Star battle station that the Alliance had destroyed a year earlier, or begun the construction of a replacement for it[1]—with the manufacture of a second Death Star having in reality commenced even before the loss of the first station[3]—it would not be doing so at all. In response to the other trooper not being convinced by the claim and questioning its implications, the stormtrooper then noted, in a low voice, that he had heard rumors about the Alliance's recent increase in power, as evidenced by its ability to destroy the Death Star. Finally, he also expressed his suspicions that Palpatine was withholding important information from his subjects.[1]

Overheard and reassigned

"Since you both have so much free time on your hands to reflect, I will see about relocating you to a post that you will undoubtedly find more… challenging. Perhaps something in the Hoth system. I don't believe we have sent many satellites out there yet. Report to your garrison commander for new orders. Your tour of duty here is now over."
―Loam Redge, to the stormtrooper and his colleague[1]

Inquisitor Loam Redge overheard the stormtroopers' conversation and subsequently had them reassigned to a more challenging post.

The stormtrooper's colleague warned him that he was risking execution by such talk, and at that moment, Inquisitor Loam Redge, who had been eavesdropping on the conversation, made his presence known to the two troopers. Caught off-guard, they both suddenly turned toward Redge, and the trooper who had made the claims stammered out an excuse that he had not been aware of the Inquisitor's presence. After Redge, who was enjoying the man's discomfort, remained silent, the stormtrooper apologized for his comments, which the Inquisitor interrupted by berating him about his lack of loyalty, reminding the trooper that he knew all that he needed to know. Pleased by the soldiers being too frightened to make any further comments, Redge then stated that the stormtrooper had nevertheless made a valid point: that the Empire still had to invest significant effort in order to prevail in the war against the Alliance.[1]

When the Sith Lord Darth Vader,[1] Palpatine's enforcer,[4] then entered the antechamber and demanded that Redge join him for a walk and a conversation, the two stormtroopers assumed an even straighter posture than they had at the Inquisitor's presence. Before he did so, however, Redge, reasoning that the troopers had too much free time on their hands, declared that their tour of duty at the retreat was over and that they were to report to their garrison commander for new orders. The Inquisitor intended for them to be transferred to a more challenging post, musing about[1] the barren Hoth system of the Outer Rim Territories[5] as one such potential destination.[1]

Equipment

The stormtrooper donned a set of stormtrooper armor, including a helmet with a transmitter.[1]

Behind the scenes
