A six-legged male[2] rat lived during the High Republic Era.[1] In 228 BBY,[3] the rat was present outside of the Tarkin Estate in Eriadu City[1]—the capital city of[4] the Outer Rim planet[5] Eriadu—when a group of Nihil[1] pirates[5] including Driggit Parse chased the Tarkin family member Lady Emelsine Tarkin through the city to the estate. The rat had gray fur, light skin, and two tails.[1]

Behind the scenes

"Now that it is out today, I must debut my special boy, a 6 legged high republic rat, who I will name CRASH, after @crashwong.bsky.social HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE"
―Liana Kangas[2]

The six-legged rat appeared in "Heart to Heart," a comic story included in the anthology The High Republic Adventures Phase III Annual. The story was written by Alyssa Wong, illustrated by Liana Kangas, and published by Dark Horse Comics as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's Phase III[1] on January 29, 2025.[2]

Prior to the issue's release, Kangas noted on Bluesky they had drawn a rat for a High Republic project, stating that as they loved overanalyzing rats within Star Wars, they had done a lot of research on how many legs it had and what it looked like that they probably would be able to do a TED Talk.[6] On the day of the issue's release, Kangas posted an image of the rat on Bluesky, noting they were pleased to debut their "special boy," and declared they would name it Crash in honor of Wong.[2] After being informed the rat had an entry on the free-to-edit, unofficial online Star Wars encyclopedia known as Wookieepedia, Kangas responded that it had "absolutely, unequivocally" made their day.[7]

The implementation of the Guardian Protocols, which Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia places in 229 BBY, took place one week after Starlight Beacon's fall according to The High Republic – Shadows of Starlight 1. As "Heart to Heart" takes place one year and a few months after the destruction of Starlight Beacon, it must be set in 228 BBY.
