- "In fact, when 'Emperor' Palpatine decided to arrest me for treason, one of his lapdog Senators informed Bail beforehand. Bail, while pretending to gloat with the swine, sent one of his men to warn me. I got off-planet about two minutes ahead of the ISB agents."
- ―Mon Mothma
A member of the Galactic Empire's Imperial Senate was[2] loyal to Emperor Palpatine during the Imperial Era.[1] In approximately 2 BBY,[3] the senator informed their peer, the Alderaanian senator Bail Organa, that Palpatine was planning to arrest Chandrilan senator Mon Mothma for treason,[2] as the Imperial Security Bureau had discovered her work in developing the Rebellion against the Empire.[4] Organa pretended to gloat with the senator, as the Alderaanian was publicly believed to be Mothma's political rival. Secretly, Organa was Mothma's ally in the Rebellion, so he dispatched a man to inform Mothma of her imminent danger. She was able to escape[2] the galactic capital planet Coruscant[5] minutes before ISB agents arrived to arrest her. Mothma later recalled the senator's unwitting role in her escape with derision, describing them as a "lapdog" and "swine."[2]
Behind the scenes
The senator was first mentioned in The Rebel Alliance Sourcebook written by Paul Murphy and published for use with West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game in 1990.[2]
