An ornithologist was based out of[1] the Mid Rim planet[2] Ruusan by the time of the ongoing struggle between the Galactic Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire.[1] Around 3643 BBY,[3] they offered a substantial reward to anyone who brought them a rare yellow-spotted variety of feathers belonging to the gibbit bird[1]—a type of avian that existed in a symbiotic relationship with rancors,[4] large carnivorous reptomammals[5] originally from the Outer Rim Territories planet Dathomir[2] and present throughout the galaxy.[5]
Around that year,[3] an individual affiliated with one of the sides in the ongoing conflict, seeking to collect the reward, organized a rancor hunt with the help of mercenaries and eventually delivered a large quantity of yellow-spotted gibbit bird feathers to the ornithologist.[1]
Behind the scenes
The ornithologist was mentioned in a Treasure Hunting Crew Skill mission of Star Wars: The Old Republic, a 2011 video game developed by BioWare, though the information regarding the mission's outcome was later removed from the game.[1] In the real world, an ornithologist is a scientist who studies birds.[6]

Since players of The Old Republic can assign their companions on the mission "Hunting is for the Birds" independently of the main class storyline at any point during the game, the mission must take place at some point around 3643 BBY.
