Behind the scenes
Wizard 22 by Louis Wiltshire
The species made their debut in the 2019 film Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, directed by J.J. Abrams.[1] They were designed by Louis Wiltshire,[3] with inspiration from Neal Scanlan, who wanted to create a "Ludo-like" creature, Ludo being a character from the 1986 film Labyrinth, directed by Jim Henson and produced by George Lucas. Though Scanlan stated in an interview with Yahoo Entertainment that he did not believe the species made it into the final cut of the film, it does actually appear briefly in the bar in Kijimi City.[4] The species was referred to by the production code "Wizard 22" on set.[3]
